Chiang Mai, Thailand, is one of my favourite places in the world, and I spend a lot of time there. I know the cheaper side of the city pretty well, but the more fancy side is something I haven't explored as much, and that is partly because there are many guides to the cheap side, and not at all many to the luxury side. I thought this guide was excellent, and I have already book marked the restaurants, for example, and have tried a couple of newer ones to me already. The guide is really well packed with info, and clearly a lot of time has gone into collating the excellent resources in there. Whether you have a holiday, honeymoon, or you just want a nice meal out while you're there, this book is full of useful stuff.

As a travel writer and frequent visitor to Chiang Mai, I'm often asked for recommendations on where to stay, dine and get pampered. This well researched comprehensive guide to Chiang Mai is a welcome addition to guidebooks currently on the market. I'll definitely be recommending this to friends, family and colleagues!

Unexpectedly, what an excellent read! I was expecting to read mostly about luxury hotels & spas in Chiang Mai. Actually, so much more is covered in this book, with many valuable sections: hotels; sightseeing places; must-do activities; fine dining; cafes & high tea; bars/nightlife; shopping; pampering and spa time; trips out of Chiang Mai; key annual events; practical issues. I couldn’t have asked for more! Creating your own customised map on Google Maps by starring all the relevant places (hotels, restaurants, spas, landmarks, etc.), you can easily plan your stay in Chiang Mai so you can simply enjoy the city. Awesome combination to plan your perfect trip in Chiang Mai!

5.0 out of 5 stars Chiang Mai, Thailand Travel Bible 22 May 2017

I've been in Thailand before, and enjoyed it so much, I actually wanted to live there for a while but I can't because of work. (Someday, hopefully) I'd love to go back there since I believe I wasn't able to maximize my stay in Thailand. With the help of this book, I found new ways to enjoy Chiang Mai even more when I get back there in the future.. It has an updated list of hotels, restaurants and wellness spas. I didn't know some of these hotels exist until I read this book.

I am an art enthusiast and the first thing that I am looking for at every location that I traveled to are the art museums.I am glad that some museums are enlisted here.I was able to go to Chiang Mai Historical Centre before and I'd love to visit Art in paradise museum next time. :)

If you are looking for a 5-star, unforgettable holiday, this book is a must for you. The author's recommendations serve as great help if it is your first time in Chiang Mai or if you want to know Chiang Mai more and would love to find more ways to enjoy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great, easy to read guide on the best of ... 8 Nov. 2016

A great, easy to read guide on the best of the best for Chiang Mai. I never knew there were so many luxurious hotels in Chiang Mai and they all look exceptionally well appointed with fantastic facilities. The innumerable quality spas discussed in this book really excited me. I was so happy the author considered good coffee places in Chiang Mail (critical for me!) and very importantly ethical elephant homes to visit. I would be curious to know of any speciality 5-star vegetarian options in any of restaurants listed.
I also liked that the author considered trips out of Chiang Mai (although from the activities outlined for Chiang Mai it appears that if you want to be kept busy for a few weeks, one could easily just do that!). Highly recommended for all those wanting to enjoy the very best of Chiang Mai.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Addition to my Travel Library! 21 April 2017

I first came here by DC-3 in 1970, when Chiang Mai University was out in the country and oxcarts still brought goods to the Warorot Market. I came back many times through the years as a backpacker and moved here permanently three years ago. Laura has done a wonderful job of capturing so much that is new and luxurious in CM, at the same time honoring the timeless beauty of the old city and the Thai countryside. She puts new visitors in touch with Lanna-Thai traditions that make this such a special place—crafts that are available in the factories and villages where they are produced and Lanna culture (traditional dance, music and architecture) that has evolved into a vibrant modern art and music scene. And elephants! Once worshipped and ridden into battle, they still abound nearby at camps where visitors can interact up close and personal. The high-end French and Lanna restaurants she recommends that I have already tried are indeed excellent. But after reading Luxurious Chiang Mai, I want to try them all! Most important, now that I live here, are the rich variety of luxury hotels—in the old city, on bustling Nimman Road, and out in the country—that I can recommend to friends visiting from overseas now that our backpacking days are a memory.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best of Chiang Mai Thailand 2 Dec. 2016

Thank goodness I have seen this Luxurious Chiang Mai: The complete guide to having a 5 star holiday or honeymoon in Chiang Mai because I wanted to give to give something to my brother on his wedding day next year. This is a perfect gift that I know his bride to be will appreciate. Spending their honeymoon on a five-star hotel outside the country. I have heard that Thailand is a very good place to visit. I just made a booking at four seasons Chiang Mai, the price wasn't bad for me and I want my brother and my sister in law will enjoy and have a beautiful honeymoon. This book is definitely helpful for someone who does not have an idea where to go if you want to visit Thailand.

I've been looking for the best hotels in Chiang Mai and this book has them all! I love the look of the Dhara Dhevi hotel and their spa too. Luxurious Chiang Mai has helped me plan my whole holiday, from start to finish. Recommended for all travellers from the US, not just wealthy ones - Chiangmai seems so affordable.
