HASH(0x9bc7a5e8) out of 5 stars Outstanding resource to use for new members... 13 Nov. 2010
By Brady L Finnern - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
The common question I receive from people when looking at churches is, "So what do Lutherans believe?" One could hand them a Book of Concord, but that might be a bit heavy. One could hand them the Small Catechism, but that still needs some teaching. Lutheranism 101 is a resource one could give to a new member and allow them to look through it themselves. I am starting to use it in my church and it has been a great blessing. I highly recommend it.

HASH(0x9bc7a63c) out of 5 stars Wonderful Resouce! 13 Nov. 2010
By Hershel - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
I purchased this book about a month ago and have already had people borrowing it!

The book is presented in a helpful reference style. It puts fourth the foundational principles of the faith confessed in Lutheranism. Especially in a world where many wonder what Lutherans are all about (usually seeing them as a middle of the road between Roman Catholicism and the rest of Protestantism), this book provides an easy source of reference. It's not intimidating or too difficult for a beginner, and yet it provides a deep enough insight into the basics of the doctrine of the faith confessed among Lutherans.

One aspect of the book that is extremely helpful is that it focuses on many of the hot topic questions often asked over and over again among Christians.

I page through the book and find myself reading pages that I wasn't planning on simply because it catches my eyes and answers my questions in short paragraphs. It's compiled by many different authors and it's quick reference style make it an absolute necessity for the bookshelves of Lutherans, and will prove very helpful for many other Christians. Thank you Concordia Publishing House.

HASH(0x9bc7aa74) out of 5 stars A Worthy Resource 13 Nov. 2010
By Dw - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
I preach and teach with a lot of passion and I've been looking for an ENGAGING theological resource for our church's growing young adult crowd. I purchased a copy of this fine resource almost a month ago and believe it to have a lot of potential for explaing the basics of the Christian faith--especially to young adults. There are many things I like about this book; it's layout, use of charts, timelines, brief biographies, bullet points and art work are all well done. The list of contributors is impressive and there are even some helpful appendices and a fine glossary at the end. All in all I thought the work to be a noble effort and a piece worthy for use in personal study or the life of a congregation. The publisher saw clearly that Christian doctrine, personal piety and parish practice/worship are inextricably linked. Therefore one's personal devotions, the historic liturgies of the church and the church year were all explained in light of what the Church believes, teaches and confesses. This was helpful from this pastor's perspective. We plan on using this resource in our parish alongside Luther's Small Catechism as aids to teach the faith to our young adults. I've ordered many more copies and will employ them as fast as I can get my hands on them. I think our 20 and 30 something crowd is going to really enjoy this resource and it will make an excellent bridge piece to the still more excellent resources found within the Book of Concord. Pax!

HASH(0x9bc7ae40) out of 5 stars A Wonderful Introduction to the Lutheran Faith 13 Nov. 2010
By Charles Pustejovsky - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
It is my opinion that this marvelous little book excels at what it intends to do. This book provides a wonderful introduction to the Christian faith that is confessed in the Lutheran Confessions. It is simple and faithfully Lutheran. This book does not contain every doctrine that Lutherans believe, teach, and confess nor should it. It is a 101 book, an introduction to the wonderful, comforting doctrines of the Gospel found in the Lutheran Confessions.

I would recommend this book to anyone interested in Lutheranism or the Christian faith. It is an excellent resource that will see much use in my family.

HASH(0x9bc7af24) out of 5 stars An Outstanding Resource 13 Nov. 2010
By Kurt Senske - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Lutheranism 101 is an outstanding resource for those that are new to Lutheranism as well as those whose Lutheran family heritage goes back generations. It is well written, easy to understand, fun to read, and on occasion even humorous resource that educates and reminds us what it means to be Lutheran. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to better understand what it means to be Lutheran. It is also a great resource for congregations to further educate their members and strengthen the bonds of their community.
