5.0 out of 5 stars the last day of that wonderful run of shows on broadway 6 Aug. 2013
By Jerbear - Published on Amazon.com
This is one of my favorite cds of Jerry's they are the two shows of the last day of those incredible shows on Broadway. Each show was made up of a set of the acoustic band followed by a set from the electric band giving you the best of both Jerry's musical worlds. There is so much of great music on these four cd that make up this release. First all the sound is wonderful and then there are the set lists that. are made up of the tunes that anyone who is a fan of this band they have come to love. You can really see the lighter side of Jerry via his comments from the stage. I'll these bands are hot during the electric band you hear how Melvin pushes Jerry and Jerry pushes back to Melvin. The band is so hot and so are the tunes I love How Sweet It Is, Dear Prudence, The Harder They Come and so many more great covers. Personally I love the Jerry Garcia Band it seems like after Jerry. came out of his coma his music was so full of passion and took on a more spiritual feel which you can hear on these shows plus Jerry seems relaxed here listen to the opening song that last set Werewolves Of London but here they are of Broadway Jerry even drops Steve Parrish and Bill Graham within the song. These shows are Jerry at his best.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jerry Garcia Band Halloween '87 6 Oct. 2010
By Grateful Jerry - Published on Amazon.com
In 1987, the Jerry Garcia Band played a legendary two week run of shows at the Lunt-Fontanne on Broadway with the last show on Halloween. Each show was opened by the short lived Jerry Garcia Acoustic Band turning in a set and followed by Jerry's Electric Band. There were problems from the start however, as the Fire Chief thought the theatre might be lacking and a near cancellation of shows. John Cutler was recording these shows on DAT and at one point, the management wanted him to destroy the tapes. He palmed the real ones and destroyed blanks. Many people think that Almost Acoustic was recorded at these shows but when it was released, I'm pretty sure that Relix reported that release was recorded at the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles.

The performances are very good but the sound quality is a little below par for the electric sets although the acoustic sets sound better. I guess that isn't too surprising given the nature of the recordings. There's another release called The Best Of The Rest which features highlights from the shows leading up to this show.

I love this CD set. Rest in peace big man. The acoustic set isn't quite as good as the other similar CD from this era, but this was a single performance as such and earlier date

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT SHOWS, just don't buy it here!!! 30 Aug. 2009
By Shaun Navis - Published on Amazon.com
The entire Pure Jerry series has been reissued and is available from the Dead's official website (dead.net), so there's no reason to pay the outrageous prices for "new & used" copies of this show that people are trying to sell here. I'm looking at dead.net right now, and you can buy this show there, brand new, for just $26. OR, you can buy it here on Amazon (at this time), new for $68 or used for $50.

I leave it up to you.

Great show... 4 CDs with the complete acoustic and electric sets from both the matinee and evening shows on 10/31/87. Just be sure to buy it at dead.net and save yourself a bundle, or buy yourself another show with the money you saved on this one!
