About the Author

The three co-authors are a truly expert team. Dr Christopher Riley, a former planetary scientist, is a historian of human space flight and director of over 100 TV programmes on his subject. W. David Woods has studied the engineering behind the Apollo programme for nearly 20 years, and edits and curates NASA's Apollo Flight Journal (AFJ). Phillip Dolling is a multi-award winning Executive Producer at the BBC, responsible for many of the corporation's flagship factual strands. Riley and Dolling were co-authors of Haynes' best-selling Apollo 11 Manual.

Wow, this is excellent! Compared to the lander manual, this is more focussed on systems and how things actually work. Perhaps that's because the rover was so much more mechanical than the lander? but it's fascinating how it mixes school level physics which the harsh limits the team faced, they ended up with some really cool integration and KISS style solutions, as well as the usual extra high tech stuff.

Starts with a nice history of lunar rover design previous to the apollo programme, which makes clear just how much work had already been done before the rover as we know it was created in a super short period of time.

Written in a clear style - even the technical parts are well written - along with some lovely photos and NASA handbook pages. This is an excellent book that in some ways is hidden by the Haynes branding (which has gotten a bit silly sometimes with subject matter). fab

It's like going to the Moon and back. Every page speaks of the incredible feat that 400,000 people at Nasa had to accomplish in order to send a man on the Moon. The Lunar Rover is a masterpiece in space engineering and simplicity. A good lesson in design, creativity and imagionation. A must have for the demanding space enthusiast.

If you, like me, are a fan of the Apollo program, this books is a nice piece of work. It complements the fantastic graphic work of Scott Sullivan in Virtual LM. I recommend it, no doubt. Interesting and well priced.
