Lumie Bodyclock wakes you gradually with light that mimics a real sunrise. The brightening light naturally brings you round from sleep, prompting your body to reduce the production of sleep hormones such as melatonin, whilst increasing the levels of hormones like cortisol that help you get up and go. This provides a fantastic start to the day for sufferers of SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) and the winter blues, and helps anyone who is not naturally a morning person to feel brighter and more energetic first thing. Lumie Bodyclock are available with a range of extra features to help you wake brighter and sleep well. From Lumie, light therapy specialists and inventors of the very first wake-up lights.

Using Bodyclock Starter 30
Light for every day well-being
Early starts, shift work, weekend lie-ins tell our bodies to be active and alert when they should be resting or vice versa.
Use Bodyclock Starter 30 all year round to help maintain a regular sleep/wake pattern and ensure you start each day with a sunrise - whatever time you wake.
Fading sunset to help you unwind
When you're ready to sleep, relax with a gradual sunset. Fading light is a signal for your body to produce melatonin in readiness for sleep so this encourages your natural sleep response.
Bright sunrise to wake you naturally
Bodyclock Starter 30 gently starts to brighten before your alarm time, waking you naturally as it reaches full brightness.
You can add an alarm beep for reassurance though many people find they wake naturally with the light alone.
Feel refreshed and properly awake
Studies have shown that waking up with gradual light is proven to improve the quality of sleep and awakening.
With Bodyclock Starter 30, you'll wake up brighter and feel ready for the day ahead.
How Bodyclock sleep and wake-up lights work
- Lumie invented the very first wake-up lights in 1993
- British Swimming team use Bodyclock to wake bright and early for training
- Registered with Medical and Healthcare Regulatory Agency (MHRA ref: CA007025)
Lumie has been designing and developing light therapy products in Cambridge, UK for over 25 years.
Lumie lights treat Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) and winter blues, boost mood and energy levels and improve sleep.
Feel awake during the day
Instead of being jolted from sleep by an alarm, Bodyclock wakes you gradually and more effectively with brightening light. By the time you open your eyes, you're properly awake, alert and feeling ready for the day ahead.
Waking like this re-sets the internal clock that controls daily wake/sleep rhythm and has been shown to boost mood, productivity and energy levels.
Ready for sleep at night
The right light can also prepare your body for sleep. All Bodyclock have a fading sunset to promote production of melatonin and help you to unwind naturally.
Recommended for SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) and winter blues sufferers and anyone who would like to wake up brighter.

The sunset feature is quite nice, but the light dims too fast and it doesn’t feel like a nice, gradual effect. There is only one choice of alarm sound with this model, and it’s a dreadful one that jolts me awake. For the same price or cheaper, I could buy a smart bulb to put in my bedside lamp and set it to dim/brighten in the same way the Lumie does. I would not recommend this product to family or friends.
I have had this alarm for a little over a month at this point, and have not slept through it once. It allows me to wake up naturally and stress free. I only use the sunrise function, but there is an alarm tone as well. I was worried about whether it would be worth paying for an expensive alarm like this, but it was definitely worth the money.
I do shift work and often in the winter am waking up in the pitch black. I've had the Lumi light for a couple of weeks and started to use it as the mornings are getting darker. It is absolutely brilliant! It gradually wakes you up (like the natural sunrise would) so it isn't so harsh being brought out of a sudden deep sleep, I feel more refreshed and it is so much easier to get up in the mornings! It helps my eyes adjust also from light to dark. I'm so pleased with this and would highly recommend it to shift workers or anyone that gets up early in the dark!
It took me a few reads of the manual to understand how to use it and now it's easy peasy! I haven't used the sound alarm on it yet, I've continued to use my phone alarm as a backup (but I have been waking up around 5 minutes before my phone alarm anyway because of Lumi!)
The gentle sunrise is a lovely way to wake up even on a grim winter's morning.
I also have the very bad bedtime habit of ignoring the time while watching a film or an episode of a series on my tablet in bed. Now with the Lumie's sunset function I am reminded to turn everything off and settle down for the night before the light goes out, as the sun sets over a 30 minute period.
I'm very pleased with this item and I think it will be life-changing for me.
Just an update I've had this lumie bodyclock for a while now and it really has made a huge difference to my mood. I now wake up naturally: I do not need an alarm clock to wake me up and while I do always wake up tired, I don't wake up feeling the winter blues.
THIS thing... barely lights up our room at all and has a bizarre feature of not displaying the time while the timer is set. So you set the “alarm” and it turns off the time display all night until after the light has come on and gone off?! If you wake before the alarm you will need another device to see what time it is.
There are definitely better products available if you want to combat SAD or simply prefer waking slowly to light. If you simply want a bit of light to help you get ready for an early start while your partner is asleep, or you just hate bright lights in the morning, this will do.
It is an essential piece of kit for me and when my old one broke I was concerned I couldn't buy an identical replacement. This is much better with the display and functions. The buttons are much nicer to use and the display dims about 10 minutes into the sunset function so it isn't ridiculously bright over night.
A worthwhile investment for anyone who struggles to get through the winter mornings in the UK!
