The light is extremely bright, so bright in fact that I generally use it on the lower brightness setting which is brighter than any of my previous torches. The adjustable focus works well going from a nice broad flood beam to a penetrating spot light. The perhaps inevitable downside to this brightness is that batteries are burnt through much quicker than on older, duller led torches.

Build quality is always a concern with these brand less products and whilst I've only had it for about a month the body of this lamp seems reassuringly well made. The straps were significantly less well made, rather small & the stitching on two of the loops was coming undone, however this was easily fixed with a needle and thread.

Generally well made as it seems to be there are some issues with the design. With the fairly bulky body and adjustable focus it is very long for a head torch, which means it tends to catch on things. You can also see the end of the torch at the top of your peripheral vision. With such a long (but useful) adjustable lens design a battery pack on the rear of the head would seem a better design.

It's quite heavy for a head torch (at least half as much again as my old petzl) and you can feel that weight, perhaps because of the way much of this weight is quite a long way out from your head. Unlike with other headlamps I've used you don't forget you're wearing it when it's not turned on.

Despite the decent build quality the design for attaching the main body of torch to the hinged bit seems rather under built with simply to sprung plastic tabs holding the whole thing together. I'd much prefer the more traditional hinge and screw design, it remains to be seen how well this holds up with prolonged use.

Overall a questionably designed but generally well made, very bright and cheap head torch.

edit. 6 months of regular use on the torch is holding up well.

First of all, lets start with the delivery: ordered on the 23rd eve and arrived today 3rd Jan am. So, pretty impressed. And given the dealer is from Shangai, I would've been impressed with a two weeks delivery in any case! For £6.99 inc delivery!!

Lets start with a bit of background for context and a couple of my daily torches: headtorch Petzl Myo XP (4 years) and a handtorch LedLenser T7 (3 years). Both give superb lighting and are pretty well built, especially the LedLenser which is near bomb proof. Thats why I bought them. They will give days of light with constant use on the same batteries. I use the Petzl 15 minutes every night and it will be months since the last time I put some batteries in the thing! Both cost me well in excess of £100. Ok, so thats a bit of my background done.

On the product I bought, the Cree its good value for sure.
Pros:
. Excellent lighting,
. One hand focus adjustment and can be done with gloves
. Cheap

Cons:
. Quality has issues
. the elastic has little stretch (might add bunjee cord)
. the lamp itself detaches totally to change batteries, so there's a risk of falling
. the swivel mechanism is plastic, and dubious if it will last.

Other:
Battery life is to be seen, but if I get 3 hours out of the 3AAAs with full brightness, I'll be happy enough.
I wouldn't have bought it as my main light as it will eat batteries on constant use, hearing from other people with similar torches, and I doubt it would last a full week normal use.

So why do I give 4*? Well, its all about context: I bought it as a cheap backup to have around that gives good light. And its £6.99, delivered!
If you're after an occasional backup and willing to be foregiving, get it now! You just can't go wrong.

I ordered it on the 27th and it came in the 1st so the delivery was before the said date, the torch is kinda small but I don't have the smallest head in the world. As for the false advertisement.. This is advertised as 300 lumens but after it arrived I checked the box and it says it's only 160, it's still very bright but I wanted 300 as I have two bike lights that are both 400 (well claimed so) and wanted to to be the same so when I bike to work in the winter mornings I light the hole street up. Overall I am happy and would recommend to others apart from the facts it's only 160 lumens. I'll make an update in a couple or weeks to see how it goes after I've had chance to test it out in the dark

Even at the lowers zoom level the light is a very narrow beam, and gets narrower yet as the zoom is pushed forward. Beam is powerful enough, and useful for peering into dark corners, and maybe good for cycling where you need to project far ahead.

Quality is typical Chinese manufacture (but at a Chinese price). Zoom easily slides forward when you don't want it to.

Fast delivery, good value, good build quality, the incredibly bright lamp will illuminate objects 100 of meters away. The head strap was more than big enough for my enormous head. Strapped on to my bike helmet - it's like riding in daylight. Great for blinding other road users. I used the insulating tape tip, given in a previous review, to blot out the red circle around the lens folder which is a little distracting.

I bought this as a replacement for a well known & much more expensive brand that had proved to be a little more flimsy in construction than i would have expected. I was anticipating something cheap & cheerful but was very pleasantly surprised. As soon as I opened the box I found it to be well made. The light it produces is phenomenal and if one can make a criticism it is that it may be too bright for close work - the dim setting produces illumination almost as bright as my previous lamp. Wheras the other lit up the path along a dark lane where I walk my dog, this torch lights up the whole lane! The beam is adjustable from a wide beam flood to a rather quirky rectangular spot which is an image of the cree chip. It has one annoying feature in that the barrel of the torch has a translucent ring that sends out peripheral light that reflects off my spectacles. I sorted it out easily by sliding over it a short section of bicycle inner tube. It also has a flashing setting on full illumination, ideal for cyclists trying to be seen.
