Michael Corwin, a detective from Boston, is in Vegas for his partners wedding and comes across Amber in a casino trying unsuccessfully to explain to Marshall that she's had enough. He intervenes when Marshall becomes aggressive towards Amber and invites her to join him and his friends. Their night leads to a lot of drinking, fun, wining a lot of cash and spur of the moment decisions that has him waking up next morning married to the woman who has somehow vanished along with his winnings.
Returning home, feeling foolish and wondering if the "Corwin Curse" has struck again, Michael is determined to move on but not before tracking his wife down for an explanation and a divorce. The last thing he expected was for Amber to turn up at his house a few days later hoping to explain and give their marriage a chance.
A heart warming story with a bit of humour and lovely characters. A good following on from Lucky Charm.
Another enjoyable read from Carly Phillips

Great read, this is the second book in the rerelease of the Corwin Curse series, and I haven't read this series yet and loving it so much. Carly Phillips shows how great of an author she always has been. Amber Lee and Mike Corwin are great together and there story is so interesting. Plus you get to see Edward and Clara story and more information on Edwards life. Then you also still get to keep up with Gabby and Derek and we get to meet Jason for the final book in this series.
Amber is a beautiful, charismatic and intelligent woman with a photographic memory. For years she used those skills to be one of the best in the business, as a major hotel concierge in Beverly Hills. Her father, who raised her alone, was a professional gambler with a gift for card counting. Amber learned all his tricks growing up. When he developed sudden onset Alzheimer's, Amber had to quit her job and help care for him. When he needed to move to a nursing home that she could not afford, she took up gambling with a partner named Marshall. At the opening of the book, she is trying to break up the partnership and work legitimately.
Mike steps in when Marshall is man-handling Amber in public when she tells him she is dissolving their partnership. Amber winds up joining the wedding party for a day of drinks and celebrating. Having grown up in Vegas, she shows them all the best spots. When the party breaks up, Amber and Mike continue alone. At the end of the night, they stumble into a small wedding chapel in Circus, Circus, and get married. With a token given to all the wedding party of his partner, Mike also wins big on the slots. After a hot honeymoon night, reality and trouble set in. There are extreme circumstances that make their marriage very hard to work out. Enjoy the family reaction, them trying to resolve their issues and the ongoing chemistry, that won't be denied, even when nothing else seems to be working out.
Amber is just trying to take the best care of her father. Her father Sam, was a con man in his day but alzhmers has robbed him of any ablitity to take care of himself. Amber has to leave her job in LA to take care of him in Vegas . She runs out of money fast and can't bear to put him in a facility that is below standards. So she goes back to what her father has taught her and contacts an old acquaintance to do one last con. She tries to get out of it but Marshall won't let her. This is where she and Mike meet.
Mike steps in when Marshall gets rough with Amber. And since she's a local and Mike is with friends getting married, she shows them all the sights. Mike and Amber don't want to separate even when the evening is over. When they accidentally wind up in a Vegas chapel and after a day of drinking, they decide why not. Thus begins their story.
Amber feels an instant connection to Mike and can't stomach to tell him everything of the truth. He again is the black and white of everything and as the omissions start to surface, he finds it increasingly difficult to trust her. Once she lays everything out for him, she must gain back his trust. And surprisingly does it through his family and especially his father. Because Edward trusts no one outside the family and hasn't for a long time. But he takes to Amber.
I throughly enjoyed the different spin on Mike's look at the curse. This is the second book in the series and in the first, the hero had the same view of the curse as his father and Edward. Edward may go to extremes but his life has proven the curse to be true. Mike is less worried about the curse, even though he's had no serious relationships, and is more worried about the mental stability of his father and becoming like that himself.
Amber is desperate for the money to support her father. She does the only thing that she knows will bring a quick return. She doesn't feel good about it but does what she must. She is a strong woman who can and will take care of herself. She doesn't give up on Mike and the relationship that she knows is the right move for her. They both feel the instant connection but she is the one to embrace it. Mike not so much.
When Amber's partner, Marshall double crosses her and the big shark at the poker table, Amber knows she better get out of Vegas fast. But the big shark isn't giving up easily. He has her found and goes after her just to find Marshall. And Marshall doesn't want to let Amber go. She's too good at the con game. Mike has to protect what is his and helps Amber in any way her can.
I love that Ms Phillips can weave such a good intrigue and love story at the same time. She tells you enough to keep you reading without too much foreshadowing. She has characters that I think of as people I could be friends with. They are real and multidimensional.
