I liked this alot but did feel like it was a re-run of the first book in the series (another marriage of convenience that isn't really as devoid of love as first thought). But if you liked 'The bad luck wedding dress' then no doubt you'll like this too.

In 1880 Fort Worth, Tye McBride is watching his three young nieces, better known as the "McBride Menaces," while his brother and new spouse enjoy a honeymoon. Though he loves his three blessings, Tye has his hands full as they try to match him up with Loretta Davis.

Claire Donovan ran away to escape from a fiancé that she does not want to marry. She rents a small shop from Tye's sibling and opens up a confectionery store that sells "magic" cakes and cookies. When Claire and Tye meet, the attraction is at maximum levels, but neither one is prepared for a relationship. However, with three imps and magic in the air, this couple appears to be destined to be together for at least a lifetime. That is, of course, if they can overcome their own reservations about love.

Geralyn Dawson is the master of light western romances that excite, charm, and make readers laugh all at the same time. Her latest novel, THE BAD LUCK CAKE, is a jocular Americana tale that will be devoured by fans of the sub-genre. The lead couple is an interesting pair, but the trio of mischief-makers steals the show. Like THE WEDDING RAFFLE and THE WEDDING RANSOM, this is a first class reading experience.

HASH(0x915328f4) out of 5 stars Just Okay 2 April 2012

The first book in this series was cute and quite charming, but I can't say the same for this one. It's not a bad book, and I think I would have liked it better if the first book wasn't as good. As it is, the characters and plot just seem to be recycled from the first. I do have to say that I enjoy that the heroine isn't just some flighty damsel in distress and that she has a plan and a vision for herself. Not a bad read over all.
HASH(0x91532ab0) out of 5 stars The McBride Menaces are Back for More Fun! 26 Oct. 2014
By JJares - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Mass Market Paperback
The McBride Menaces are back! Fort Worth is still the scene and it's a while later than the first book (THE BAD LUCK WEDDING DRESS). While Trace and Jenny are on an extended honeymoon, Tye is taking his chances with the Menaces he's renamed the McBride Blessings.

Tye is going to have a hard time referring to them as Blessings while they work to get him married off to Loretta Davis (who already has a beau). In the meantime, the newspaper prints a story about Tye being a member of the British aristocracy and Fort Worth women are after him.

With the Blessings on the job, just how long can it take for Tye to see reason (and love)? Claire Donovan has run away from a fiancé that she wasn't willing to marry; now she's moved to Fort Worth and opened a confectionery shop (downstairs from where the Blessings and Tye are living) - that has magic cakes, muffins and cookies.

Although attracted to Tye, she has problems of her own and lacks the time to work on a relationship with Tye. The secondary characters that made the first book of this series funny are here again.

To me, this book seemed funnier than but not quite as interesting as the first book. Don't get me wrong, I can hardly wait to find another of her books. Maybe I shouldn't have read the two books so closely together; it set my expectations very high. Delightful!

Claire is trying to make a go of her bakery. At the same time "Uncle" Tye is trying to manage his three nieces, who he calls "Blessings". Of course the town has another name for the girls and the mischief they get in to. Claire and Tye keep helping each other till you can actually feel the sparks between them as you read. From kidnapping, financial ruin, family crisis and even death this book is one big adventure. I loved the characters SO much I read this in one sitting. Great book!
