Out of date book - professionally unreliable
on 4 February 2015
I was disappointed with this book. I bought it as a person who specialises in hours and ADR work. I read it from cover to cover as a CPD interest. Im a sad bedtime reader :) It states it is up to date and says 2014 on the cover. However its clear that internally no update has taken place. Fine amounts and 2013 changes like VEL haven't been updated. contact details for ab loads offices are years out of date. It mentions legislation on the horizon that came in several years ago. By mid way through the book i had lost all faith in it as a current or accurate reference. Add to this an attempt to summarise ADR, which is just asking for trouble and i fear that people are more likely to be caught out than assisted. Page 492 is a good example where it mentions an update of ADR in 2011 is expected as the book went to press. That means it was written on ADR 2009 ! We are three sets of volumes further on and yet the cover of the book purports to be a 2014 edition. There are many such examples of this throughout the book and it appears that a once reliable text is being resold as new when it is no longer fit for purpose. This will put operators who use it at risk. It will give you a false sense of being informed when in fact you are misinformed. It appears a great book and i agree it would be perfect if it was reliable. I note how other reviews rave about it and i can see why. Just be warned that you need to check elsewhere before you take action on anything in this book. Im sorry i cant recommend an alternative other than to always check source legislation before you make decisions. I am very tempted to look into a refund and report to trading standards as to me the book is worthless.
