Lowepro is one of the trusted and professional photographers have relied on their products since 1967. These photographers carry Lowepro bags over the world-in every kind of climate and in every kind of condition-and rely on the inventive designs to provide protection, accessibility, comfort and durability they can trust.
Vertex is Lowepro's premium, rugged backpack built for adventure and sports photographers who carry pro-sized gear, laptop, tripod, outdoor accessories and a few creature comforts on shoots.
A lightweight harness system with multiple adjustment points delivers high comfort with minimal bulk.
The padded camera compartment with adjustable divider system offers easy customisation, built-in memory card holders keeps spare memory organised and within easy reach. Inside the camera compartment reversed zippers with zipper garages protect your gear from scratches.
An adjustable Glide-Lock system and detachable tripod mount secures tripod or other outdoor accessories to the front of the pack with stability and balance.
Outer storage pockets centralise accessories and personal items for easy access and a padded front compartment offers protective space for laptop, files, jacket, etc. SlipLock attachment loops for compatible accessories expand carrying capacity further.
Lowepro’s Patented, built-in all Weather AW Cover with heat-sealed seams provides protection from elements and water-resistant YKK zippers repel moisture. The silent zipper pulls offer quiet access when shooting near wildlife or whilst filming.
Fits: 1-2 Pro DSLRS or a medium format system, 6-8 extra lenses (up to 400 mm f/2 8), flash, tripod or monopod, up to a 17” laptop, accessories and personal items.
From the manufacturer
The Trusted Original
Lowepro was born from one daring mountaineer’s desire to capture some of the world’s most unexplored beauty spots, with just a camera in tow. Greg Lowe made it his mission to create only the best in innovative, cutting-edge equipment, to protect extreme sporting lovers’ cameras and cinematography equipment from the heart-pounding elements.
The humble Colorado garage beginning of the world’s first Internal Frame Backpack in 1967 pays tribute to Lowe’s enduring belief that he could be the one to design a close-fitting and supportive backpack to transport camera and recording equipment that had otherwise never been seen before. Climbers, mountain bikers, skiers and hikers could now comfortably carry their equipment to heights that only they had known, capturing intimate sights for the rest of the world to see.
Lowe’s first defying feat paved the way for the original Soft-sided Protective Camera Bag, also to be the first of its time.
And with that, the Lowepro mark took off. Fast forward to today and Lowepro has seen the creation of the first ever waterproof camera backpack, and continues to innovate each year to keep up with the demands of a fast-paced, ever changing world of technology and photography.
Weather resistant backpack
Carry & protect your sensitive photography equipment in the rugged Vertex AW Series. Shelter gear from rain, snow, sand and dust with the revolutionary built-in All Weather Cover for complete protection, whether you’re mountain trekking or visiting a remote location.
A tough, water-resistant outer fabric conceals the padded interior main compartment featuring adjustable, padded dividers for excellent protection and a customised fit.
Two front accessory panels centralise all your digital accessories and personal gear for quick and easy access when you’re on location. A rugged construction, with water-resistant YKK zips and an enhanced All Weather Cover with heat-sealed seams ensures the Vertex series will stand up to just about any conditions.
Laminated-mesh interior pockets organise extra cables, adapters and digital accessories, and a versatile padded front compartment securely holds a notebook computer and other personal items.
Ideal for adventure & sports photographers
The lightweight, premium Vertex series of professional backpacks are more than ready for your next adventure or photo assignment. A lightweight harness system with high density padding and multiple adjustment points deliver maximum comfort with minimal bulk, making it easier to work with heavy loads.
The Vertex 100 AW offers 6 adjustment points to deliver maximum comfort, whilst the 200 AW and 300 AW feature 8 for a fully customised fit. Deep enough to accommodate a Pro DSLR system, each model can fit a laptop of varying sizes, and all feature the revolutionary Glide-Lock attachment system making it easy to secure tripods, monopods to your bag. Additional SlipLock attachment loops provide further storage capacity.
All three models in the Vertex series are carry-on compatible for added convenience (check with individual airlines before flying) and the Vertex 300 AW includes a zippered back cover to protect the harness system during airline check-in. Reverse zippers are also included, complete with zipper garages, to further protect equipment from knocks and scratches whilst in transit.

The only thing I will say against it is that the tripod holder is largely useless - hence perfect for the "pro-sumer" (more serious than a consumer, less expert than a professional). Any half-decent tripod will add too much bulk and weight to the back, tipping you over. It is also difficult and time consuming to adjust the sliding strap, which doesn't go high enough to securely hold a proper tripod. I expect that the next size up, the Lowepro Vertex 200 AW Photo/ 15.4" Notebook Backpack For Digital SLR & 4-6 Lenses - Black, will be more stable a platform for carrying more kit, including a full-sized tripod. The 300 AW, of course, would be ideal. However, I expect that that would probably go beyond the constraints of standard airline hand luggage allowance while the 200 AW and 100 AW do not.
I, unfortunately, am having to replace my Vertex 100 AW now. I have bought a bigger laptop, so it doesn't fit in the slot at the front any more. Beyond that, and despite some pretty rough use at times, my four-year-old bag is still almost as-new.
Nikon D60 + 18-55 VR lens (attached)
Sigma 70-200 lens (with hood inverted)
Sigma 150-500 lens (with hood inverted)
and I still have lots of space for an extra lens (such as a fisheye which I would like to purchase soon) extra batteries, battery charger, filters...
Oddly enough I use the space for the PC for manuals and magazines. Since this backpack comes onboard when flying a magazine or two is a nice thing to have. So if you don't care about bringing a PC along, use the space alternatively as I did.
I highly recommend this backpack if you have a similar combo of camera, lens and equipment.
