From the Manufacturer
The Trusted Original
Lowepro was born from one daring mountaineer’s desire to capture some of the world’s most unexplored beauty spots, with just a camera in tow. Greg Lowe made it his mission to create only the best in innovative, cutting-edge equipment, to protect extreme sporting lovers’ cameras and cinematography equipment from the heart-pounding elements.
The humble Colorado garage beginning of the world’s first Internal Frame Backpack in 1967 pays tribute to Lowe’s enduring belief that he could be the one to design a close-fitting and supportive backpack to transport camera and recording equipment that had otherwise never been seen before. Climbers, mountain bikers, skiers and hikers could now comfortably carry their equipment to heights that only they had known, capturing intimate sights for the rest of the world to see.
Lowe’s first defying feat paved the way for the original Soft-sided Protective Camera Bag, also to be the first of its time.
And with that, the Lowepro mark took off. Fast forward to today and Lowepro has seen the creation of the first ever waterproof camera backpack, and continues to innovate each year to keep up with the demands of a fast-paced, ever changing world of technology and photography.
Steeped in history
The Magnum AW Shoulder Bag is built on the foundation of its predecessor: the original pro bag that was designed in 1976 and is an industry standard to this day.
The next generation remains an essential toolbox for the pro photographer of today: extra portable, durable and flexible. An innovative internal dividing system provides a flexible structure to accommodate plenty of gear when you’re on-the-go.
A premium moulded base offers water-resistant, sturdy and stable protection whether you’re shooting in the city or the wild. Find a padded laptop or tablet pocket in the Magnum 400AW and Magnum 650 AW and room to fit 1 – 2 Pro DSLR models with lens attached along with up to 4 extra lenses and accessories, depending on the bag model chosen.
The internal one-piece foam framing provides superior protection at critical points and corners, to absorb impact and shock no matter what environment you find yourself in, whilst the built-in patented All Weather waterproof cover adds further protection from rain, snow, sand and dust.
Ideal for Professional Photographers
Designed to protect & transport professional photography gear, the Lowepro Magnum AW Series is compact and lightweight whilst holding plenty of space to transport all your main gear. A Vertebral Tech Shoulder Strap makes it easy to carry heavier loads in comfort by evenly distributing the weight across the body, and a rugged exterior material increases durability.
Available in three sizes, the Magnum AW Series features a notebook sleeve with an integrated sunshade in the largest model, as well as a rain-flap lid with locking zippers on all models, to provide extra protection from moisture and added security (the lock is not included). A built-in trolley sleeve and handcart strap makes it easy to securely attach each bag to luggage for smooth transportation.
Extra features include an adjustable padded divider system for a fully customised fit to hold all vital photography equipment, padded grab handles that offer a well-balanced carrying option for extra-heavy loads, and a patented built-in All Weather Cover to protect your gear from the elements.

The side pockets are not suitable for delicate items, I use them for items inside their own padded bags. It fulfills my requirements --
-- just!! However, I don't know of anything on the market which is better. Whilst the price of the product is on the high side the Amazon price was very competitive and I had no problems with the ordering process or with the delivery.
To prospective purchasers with large outfits to carry I would recommend trying to see the actual bag before purchase.
Its a Lowepro, which mean's the quality is second to none.
Its a proper 'pro' bag - which mean's it's big enough to get ALL your kit in. (I carry a pro size DSLT, battery grip attached, with a pro 70-400mm lens (and hood) attached to the camera body, along with 2 other lenses (16-50mm f2.8 and 135mm f1.8) and there's plenty of room for a full cleaning kit, boom mic, Manfrotto short column centre section and numerous other accessories in the main compartment, that's without using the 2 large side pockets, the big front pocket or the rear pocket!)
Its a Lowepro 'AW' - that's 'All Weather' - it's got a rain coat hidden away that actually works when you need one.
It has a great shoulder strap as well as multiple carrying handle's.
And if you do need bigger, its got a big brother, the 650AW, which is massive!
So, to summarise, it's a Lowepro, it works, really well, so why would you put you cherished camera equipment in anything else?
I already had a Lowepro rucksack bag for my out and about photography but with toting around up to 3 speedlites, two camera bodies, 3 to 4 lenses, speedlite mounting clamps, gels, flash diffusers and business cards! I needed the biggest bag there is for my wedding, portrait and fashion work. Also I liked the idea of the laptop shade as well.
When the bag arrived and unpacked I came across the one major issue, the laptop shade/bag, complete waist of time it's made to sit on top of everything else in the bag so every time you need to delve in for a speedlite or other lens it's in the way it also take 3-4 inches of the total depth of the bag up so that was slung out straight away. Apart from that this bag is huge! It takes everything and more to be honest the only warning I can give is it takes that much you may have a issue with weight. The strap on it is excellent but if your slightly built and need to shift this amount of kit it may be worth getting a trolley to strap this onto (it does have the straps to do so though).
Apart from that this is now my day to day tool box it carries everything I need and protects it well which is of course what we all want. If I was to have one other issue it would be I would rather have one large quick close buckle to undo rather than the two smaller corner ones when I want to close the lid move the bag around (by the top handle) and not want to zip it up.
But that's it it's a cracking bag and well built I just hope it last as long as the Cobra!
The bag itself is very light. It was surprisingly light to me. It features a thick and hard plastic bottom, while still being very light as a whole.
I managed to place inside the main compartment (all equipment in vertical, "standing" position, all lenses with hoods reversed, no lenses on top of each other)
1x camera body (d800) + grip (= pro body form factor) with no lens attached
1x 300mm f4, 1x70-200 f2.8 , 1x24-70 f2.8 , 1x105mm f2.8 micro, 1x35mm f1.4, 1x50mm, 1x 14-24 f2.8, 1x 135mm f2 dc
1x flash sb910 (+ mini stand and mini difuser, placed beneath the flash)
1x pixel king remote flash kit (transmitter / receiver) placed beneath the 35mm f1.4 with horizontal divider between them
1x 1.7x tc (placed beneath the 105mm with horizontal divider between them )
6x 100mm lee filters + 1xcokin 100mm polariser inside their soft cloth cases (placed vertical in space left in front of the 24-70 with vertical divider between)
(12AA batteries inside compartments (3x4))
2x manfrotto led light chargers + 2x manfrotto led light tripod adapters (placed beneath the 50mm
left side pocket easily carries 2x manfrotto 84 led lights.
right side pocket was filled with cloths, monster blower, camera charger and power cable , cokin 100mm filter holder
front pocket was filled with 77mm circular polariser (inside its case), a variable nd filter, some sensor cleaning scrubs + fluid, camera remote controls (wired, wireless), extra camera battery, memory cards...Read more ›
