I so preferred this story to the first one (Loving Amber). Great chracters and good build up in their relationship. One star taken off because it felt a little rushed towards the end, and like the first book, the epilogue is short and doesn't say much! A very sweet story. X

Loving Ruby is the second book in Roya Carmen's Riverstine series. It features Ruby, Amber's younger sister, introduced in book one. It can be read as a standalone, but I suggest reading in order for the full experience.
Ruby needs a job. When she sees an ad for an assistant to a famous writer, it seems perfect for her. She applies, but figures she has little to no chance landing the position. She's definitely intrigued by him and all of the rumors surrounding him which range from him being a wife killer to a vampire. She is shocked to be selected and even more shocked to find out just how gorgeous the mysterious and reclusive August Hyde is in person.
August has money, looks and writing fame, but has been hiding from the world for the last two years following a tragedy. With his increasing popularity, he knows he needs help with promotion and social media so he reluctantly hires an assistant. When Ruby shows up he is almost knocked over by his desire for her, a desire he is determined to ignore.
Ruby and August begin a complicated and frustrating battle of Hot and Cold. He is both drawn to her and desperate to keep her at arm's length. Despite his efforts, Ruby pushes back, trying to break through his defenses and soften his scarred and hard heart.
I very much enjoyed Ruby and August's romance. I loved Ruby's feisty personality. She was so perfect for August, who can't seem to find his way back after being shattered by tragedy. Watching Ruby slowly break through his defenses kept me transfixed. I enjoyed this even more than book one! Another well written story by the talented Carmen.

This was another really great book for Roya Carmen in the Riverstone Estate series. I loved Ruby as a character in Loving Amber, so was really excited to read her book. Having said that, this could be read as a complete standalone.

Ruby needs a job. She's been at a bit of a dead end in her life, with which direction she wants to go, workwise and generally. She has dreams of writing and illustrating a children's book, but not had the enthusiasm or encouragement from anyone else to do it seriously. She's been helping her sister our around the Riverstone Estate, but wants something more for herself.

When she see's a job advertised for to become a PA for a bestselling author, she thinks it sounds perfect for her. August Hyde is a brilliant author, but he realises he needs more help while he writes, hence the need for a PA. Unfortunately following a huge tragedy a number of years ago, August's life has become rather reclusive, with him not leaving the house. There are plenty of rumours kicking around the town that Ruby lives in as to why Mr Hyde shuts himself away in his big old house all on his own.

When Ruby goes for her interview there is an instant connection between the 2 characters, but can August have Ruby working for him? His past does not allow him to have feelings for anyone else. He has so many fears, and no time for distractions from the gorgeous, quirky Ruby. August Hyde is gorgeous too, and Ruby realises her own attraction towards him could cause an issue in the office. But they can keep things strictly professional can't they? She needs this job...

I loved both Ruby and August's characters in this story. August is in a constant state of hot and cold with Ruby, and I like how this was written.

I love this author and her writing. Roya knows how to draw you into a story from the start. With this book it was easier than that because this is book 2 in the Riverstone Estate books so we met Ruby in book 1 and I just loved her character. I was so excited to see that she was getting her own book. She is the sister to Amber. She’s young, feisty, sassy, sweet, funny, and hilarious. It isn’t necessary to read Amber’s book first as this one can be considered a standalone.

I really enjoyed the storyline. I wasn’t sure when I began reading it where the story was going but the more I got into it and discovered August Hyde’s secrets the more I wanted to know more. August ran hot and cold from each encounter. I’m glad we got his POV otherwise I would have hated him. It was nice to get into his head and try to figure him out.

While I loved the story, I just wished there was a little more angst…and trust me, I’m hitting my head on the table right now because I can’t believe I just said that but I just felt like there needed to be a little more and that’s why I gave it 4 stars. Don’t get me wrong! This was a GREAT book! A must read! I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

Loving Ruby by Roya Carmen

Book: Loving Ruby

Author: Roya Carmen

Series: The Riverstone series #2

Release date: 19 January, 2017

Main characters: Ruby Riverstone, our creative heroine who is struggling to find her career path. August Hyde, reclusive hero whose life is about to be turned upside down by Ruby.

Why you should read it: Oh my! I had a feeling this book would be hot and seriously fun, and I wasn’t wrong! My previous read was a pretty heavy series, so this book was just what I needed. The chemistry between Ruby and August really worked for me. There was not much back and forth, it flowed well and was light on the angst. What appealed to me was the depth of feeling both characters were dealing with. Dual points of view can be a bit hit and miss at times, but in this story it worked really well. You get fully rounded characters and a truly enjoyable story.

What you may not like: Erm…nada, rien, niente. It was pitch perfect in my opinion. Good chemistry between the characters, nicely paced. No repetitive dialogues. I loved it all. This is shaping up into a really strong series.

Rating: 5/5 for a truly exciting and sexy read. The scenes are seriously hot. Be warned.
