Although I agree with another reviewer that the story is a familiar one, to me that didn't matter. It is hard to come up with a unique angle with a saturated market, what matters is how well the story is told.
From the first few pages I felt engaged with the main characters, having been through more than their fair share of heartache! I was routing for them to have a change of fortune.
The love story between Daniel and Ashlyn is beautiful. The letters from Ashlyn's dead twin were both heartbreaking but full of humour. The author also manages to bring in some other great characters. I loved Ryan and Hailey!
I recommend this book to anyone who likes a good romance and doesn't'mind shedding a few tears along the way.
Ashlyn is reeling from the loss of her twin sister and her mum's rejection as she moves away to live with her father, a man she's been estranged from for years. To make matters worse, she finds her father has another family she knew nothing about. The only things putting a smile on her face is meeting her kindred spirit and fellow Shakespeare nerd, Daniel Daniels and completing the bucket list left to her by her late sister.
Then she starts her final year of High School and guess who her English teacher is?
There was a secret/forbidden element to this story but it was much more complex than that. Daniel has suffered bereavements too so they comfort one another. The chemistry between them is amazing, their banter and just their real affection for one another made this such a fantastic read.
I also loved the development of the relationship between Ashlyn and her new step siblings and her parents. Just beautiful.
I'm a huge fan of student/teacher romances but surprisingly this book has been lying on my kindle for well over a year. When Brittainy was announced at a signing I was attending it gave me the push to read it and I'm glad I did ! It has everything I love in a student / teacher romance the forbidden love, sneaking around and loads of angst too. Perfect for fans of this genre !
This is a tale of grief, finding your way and the best kind of love a person can find...eternal!!!
As everyone knows this a student/teacher story and we all know it's a taboo kind of story but this book was so much more...I do love to read my fair share of angst but this didn't feel like that. I can't say too much because it will give way too much away but what I will say is its worth it.
Ashlynn and Daniel are both amazing in their own right, they are both still dealing with grief but what they find together is an everlasting love that no-one can take away from them. They was only 3 years apart in age but then I do get that student/teacher taboo but they were old enough to know how they felt about each other. They loved each other so tremendously...there was a slow burn going on and it warmed your heart to read it...I think the last four chapters all I did was cry but they were heartwarming tears that steadily ran down my face..
This is a must read if you don't you are totally missing out on one of the best books of the year. I'd give this so many more stars if i could!!!
Congratulations Brittainy Cherry this was magnificent...💟
The main focus of the book if is of course Ashlyn a student and Mr Daniels her writing teacher, but the story revolves around a history they both have in common, and ultimately connects them together.
The student/teacher romance may not be an original concept, but what is refreshing to read about this particular book are all the secondary characters (and their lives) play an integral part of the overall story, and are what bring this book together so well. The Shakespeare fore play talk had me stitches….each to their own I guess! This is a great romance story (a bit slushy at times but I like that sometimes) it has its more serious sad moments but ends on a high note. Another good thing it’s one novel, no follow on second book! Yay. My only comment would be at 354 pages maybe a little too drawn out but an excellent story none the less, and I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a teacher/student romance.
