This is the love story of Nicholas and Peyton who met and fell in love in high school. One mistake ended their relationship - a very painful ending for them both. Peyton marries Issac- a basketball player but does he really love her and can Peyton truly love him as she did her first true love -Nicholas.
Four years later that love is put to the test when Peyton's Mother passes away and Nicolas comes back to pay his respects. Does all those feeling they once had re- appear, can Peyton who is a married woman resist Nicholas and all the feelings she once had for him. Will it make her re think her life as it is now ?
The story is written from both of the characters perspectives which I really like as we get to experience both of their feelings at the time. Also it flits back to the past when they were together and you see just what sort of intense love they shared - and also the despair and the pain when that same love ended. I adored Nicholas - I cannot lie, and who wouldn't want a man to be so utterly consumed by you and love you so much that he would die for you. Yes Nicholas was a beautiful person inside and out. Peyton was another conundrum for me. What she did, she did out of love BUT it isn't what I would have done so I found her character lacking in backbone and I was frustrated by her at times.
The author has captured the sensitivity of their feelings, their passion, their pain and their all consuming beautiful love to the point I was completely immersed in the book, completely consumed by their journey - I was actually living in this story. I could not put the book down and read late in to the night. They took my heart - ripped it out, stamped all over it and then put it back together again but what a journey, what an experience. you will be on the edge of your seat reading this book but you also don't want to miss this incredible story. I'm a total sucker for genuine love story and this was one of them. Thank you William Shakespeare for your influence in this fantastic story and Stevie J Cole - you rock lady !!!
Not to be missed !!
I know that this is a book that from the start is going to get some people unsure of some elements in the story (i.e. the cheating) but you shouldn’t let that detract from what is a poignant tale of first loves, missed opportunities, and second chances.
The characters of Peyton and Nicolas are rich and well developed, and their stories both together and independently make them people that you can quickly grow to find a connection with. I was quickly pulled into their story, one that I know that everyone can identify with, lost loves that get away with your heart that you never get over, second chances at love.
I highly recommend this book! 5 very well deserved stars.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone that asks, because I'm a sadistic bitch and want to watch everybody else ugly cry at this book! So worth it!
I loved it though, well done and thank you 😘
This is Nic and Peyton's journey of love, forgiveness and life. I actually didn't find it tragic at all (disagreeing with the title and characters sentiment). Nic and Peyton found love and each other, if is the people who never find that whose life is tragic.
The writing and plot flow and weave quickly. Hard to put down. Glad there was a HEA.
Rarely has a book made me curse so loudly in my head, ugly cry for a loss or crazy laugh so much. This book isn't for the faint of heart that expects all sunshine and rainbows. I felt the characters loss and betrayal as if it was my own. Cheered at the end when the rainbow did appear after the storm. Would recommend to anyone and everyone! Look forward to her upcoming books.

Wow! I was up all night reading this angsty book! I couldn't put it down once I started. Books like this are usually not my cup of tea but I'm glad I read this one because I loved it!!
This is a love so tragic—Shakespeare would have loved our story...
Nic and Peyton connect the first day of their senior year. They fall in love. Years later they are both stressing over college exams and have a bad argument which leads them to taking a break from each other. Peyton makes a bad decision. A decision that later has her and Nic's life changing. A decision that leaves them both apart from each other.
A decision that leaves Nic hating Peyton!
Years later something happens in Peyton's life that brings Nic back into it. These two should of moved on from each other. But they clearly haven't because when they look at each other the feelings all come crashing back.
Peyton and Nic are both in a relationship with someone who they should be able to be in love with. But aren't because Peyton and Nic are still thinking about the one they let get away. The one they thought they would love forever. The one they thought they would marry, have kids and grow old together with.
This is told in Nic's and Peyton's POV. I fell hard for Nic right away! He was sexy and sweet. I loved how he did the most romantic things even if it really wasn't his usual style. I loved how he wrote her poems, talked Spanish to her, danced under the stars with her and wrote her sweet letters telling her how much he loved her.
“Tardé una hora en conocerte y sólo un día en enamorarme,” he whispers against my ear. “Pero me llevará toda una vida poder olvidarte.” It took me an hour to know you, and only a day to fall in love, but it will take me a lifetime to forget you.~Nic
I can't say I loved Peyton. I didn't hate her but I didn't agree with some of her choices. She defiantly made me want to reach in my kindle and shake her. lol I did love her best friend Jen!! She had me laughing many times!
I can't tell you more about this book with out spoiling it. If you're in the mood for some angst this is the book for you! I loved it and I hope you do too:)
“I think I’ll keep you, pretty girl,” I whisper as I pull away.
The title says it all.
A love so tragic.
Peyton and Nic, first love, true love , painful love.
Sometimes that love is not meant to be.
When is it time to give up on that kind of love?
Is it ever time to give up?
I think everyone can connect with this book because I think everyone has this kind of
love. I know I have. One so painful that if things would have been different we would
have been together, if we would have just done this, or done that. A whole bunch of
This story gutted me, and then I would put it down.
Pick it up, read some more. GUT me, throw my kindle.
Pick it up, gut me, throw it. Pick it up, gut me.
Yeah, it is one of those stories..
I can't even put into words what this book did to me.
This is my first book by Stevie and it won't be my last.
She has a gift in making you want to grab a tub of ben and jerry's and drown
your sorrows. I wonder if all her books are like this?
Woman has a career in writing let me tell you!!!
I won't give anything away cause what would be the fun in that?
You just have to read it to find out all the juicy stuff, but you really don't want
to miss this book. You get it all. First love, sorrow, mourning, angst, sex, best friends,
and so much more..
Thank you Stevie for a very passionate novel .. It took me 3 days to read it only because I had to put it down from time to time to breathe through the anxiety it was giving me... props to you!!!
At times I almost felt panicked and had to make myself turn the page. You might think that means this is a horrible book but its exactly the opposite. The author does an incredible job of making you feel Peyton and Nic's emotions. From the first chapter when Peyton loses her mom, I was enthralled with the writing. There is a paragraph at the end of that chapter that so perfectly sums up what I can only imagine to be the feelings at the loss of a mother.
"There is an absence that overwhelms you when you lose your mother, and it's one I can't explain. It's emptiness at its greatest, a chasm ripping through the core of your soul. Your mother is the one person who has been with you throughout your life. Her voice is the first you hear before the world even knows who you are, her heartbeat the song of comfort your life forms to, and when you lose the person who gave you life, a part of you dies along with them."
I don't often bookmark pages and passages in books but I did with ALST. This paragraph I think sums up the book perfectly.
"As much as you may want to, you can't make yourself love someone, and as much as it sucks, you can't make yourself not love someone either. Love is its own f'ing beast."
After reading the book, I sent Stevie a message about how much I loved it. She said she was just hoping to live up to the amazing cover and I told her the writing exceeded the beautiful cover. Definitely pick up A Love So Tragic. Its beautifully written and will hook you from the very beginning!
The subject matter is still somewhat taboo, but you gave us depth and understanding. You gave us a realistic portrayal of relationships under siege, by the characters and those around them. What we want and what we can have aren't always the same thing. There was no 'noble sacrifice', there were people trapped by their life situations and their choices and finding their way out of that was hard, painful and necessitated a look within.
I loved that you didn't cosset us with platitudes about the heart wanting what the heart wants, or make Issac out to be a villain. Jen was a delight, Matt and Aiden kept Nic honest. Your secondary characters weren't plot devices, they were mirrors used well to reflect back the Main Characters inner voices.
Loved it, write more "sweet stuff" :D
p.s. I definitely shook my fist at you towards the end. Tricky Trickster.
My pillowcase is a little damp, having cried myself to sleep after reading it.
And I just know …
This is a book that I will never forget.
My reasons for loving this may be too personal to put into a book review.
Perhaps it's that deeply personal, extremely emotional connection that puts this in contention for top read of the year for me. (I know it's early, but I doubt my feelings will change).
Stevie J Cole has such an eloquent way of putting words on a page. Words that captured my heart and soul. This was my first book by her, but most certainly will not be my last!
There is such a raw, brutal honesty to this story.
It’s also breathtakingly beautiful.
The characters are so wonderfully real. Hurting, hoping, second guessing and making poor choices. Each moment spent in their thoughts unveils how perfectly human they are - fragile and flawed. They made me cry and scream and swoon and then cry some more. Even when I should have hated them, I couldn’t help but love them.
I hesitate in saying that everyone should read this book - quite frankly, this story will not be for everyone. But for those with an open mind and an open heart - take the chance! I truly believe you’ll be rewarded.
The story starts out with Peyton and Nicolas.
They were high school sweethearts.
But life doesn't go as planned especially being young and in love.
As the story progresses you will go on to find out that nobody is perfect and everyone makes mistakes. The mistakes that Peyton makes in her life will effect everyone, including Nicolas. Peyton is a very strong person, but when your heart is invested into one person, sometimes doing the wrong thing is the only way to figure out what is best for your life .
Nicolas was completely consumed with Peyton since he saw her in class at school.Nic would.have done anything and everythingfor Peyton and actually he did. They were high school sweethearts with plans for a future together....but one fight...one misunderstanding ...one night ripped them apart.
When Nic comes back to town for Peyton's mothers funeral, he can't stop thinking about Peyton.
Can they re-kindle their relationship?
Well as the story progresses you will be consumed with their love, and how deep it is, and all about the love they have for each other all through high school , with letters that Nic decides to send Peyton.
Years go by and Peyton starts to re-evaluate her life, making even more wrong desicions, but are they so wrong?
I personally connected with Peytons character and understood her.
Will Peyton and Nic get a HEA? Please go and but this book ..The title does not do it justice...
It was truly a tragic love story
It will make you cry, curse and leave you on the edge of your seat! I also thought the ending was one of the best parts of the book , ripping my heart to shreads!!! Well done!
