By The Wolf TOP 50 REVIEWERVINE VOICE on 13 Sept. 2015
Format: Audio CD
Kwabs debut album 'Love+War' is a cracker. I first heard his rich, soulful voice back in
Autumn last year with the release of the single 'Walk', a very promising signpost on the
way to here. Now we have the opportunity to appraise his talent in full. It's a revelation!

Where has he been hiding?! These twelve performances reveal an artist of consummate skill.
I'd argue from the evidence here that he is one of the very finest vocalists of his generation.

From the first brooding bars of the opening title track, melting away with the vocal entry into a
powerful anthem built on the back of a rock-solid bass line and uplifting harmonies; through the
gentler staccato percussive flow of 'My Own'; the heart-melting personal reflections of 'Perfect
Ruin'; to the bluesy, bitter-sweet sentiments of the sublime final number 'Cheating On Me',
Mr Kwabs never loses his grip on the wheel. This is the most exhilarating of musical journeys!

An utterly convincing first showing. A singer of World class calibre. His future is secure.

Essential.

I write this as a woman of a 'certain' age whose all-time favourite singer is Marvin Gaye and who first came across Kwabs on a 'Later with Jools Holland' show. I bought tickets to see him live in Bristol earlier this year - an amazing performance - and have been eagerly awaiting this album which was postponed from its original May date to September. He's a supremely cool guy and his voice is deep, smooth and oh so soulful. Every track is a winner - no fillers here. Would highly recommend as one of my top albums of this year.

Saw Kwabs on Jools Holland playing with Disclosure and loved his voice. The album's production makes too little of it - it's rather overproduced and is trying not to give him a distinctive musical and vocal style. It's not been a firm favourite and has been consigned to wasteland of the other 10000 songs on my iPod. I'd like a new musical direction from him and to make more of what is a unique vocal style.

Excellent album. The production values are excellent and this sounds FAR better on CD than my usual Spotify option (even the highest res). I went 4* because a couple of tracks on the album aren't as strong as the rest, but this is worth the purchase.

Very 90s really. I liked some of the songs on here, but wasn't keen on some of the others. It's quite variable really, some of the tracks are kind of cheesy pop, and others are more kind of ballad. His voice is silky smooth like chocolate, especially in his lower range. Definitely worth a listen, and well worth the money

Having Shazamed Kwabs track "Perfect Ruin" earlier in the year, I hunted out his various other tracks which, at the time, were mainly via EPs (Walk, Pray for Love, Wrong or Right). I was immediately hooked.

Ok, trying to put Kwabs in any particular pigeon hole for style is difficult. Some tracks are adult pop, others RnB, gospel, some jazz hints, soulful, electro-pop...the tracks here are varied, eclectic even, but they all work. They all work really, really well.

Kwabs has a truly amazing baritone voice. It is so strong, so smooth, such great range...it seems at times he can sing a note for minutes on end. Of course, having looked into his background, it all becomes clear. He'd been the lead singer of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra for 3 years - this man can sing, I mean properly sing.

But just having a good voice isn't enough tho, is it? You've got to have the choons. You need the production.

Love + War has it all.

I've often found albums either grow on me (in that I have to listen to them over and over to really LOVE them, and then end up loving them forever) or I love them straightaway (and the love soon fades). Bizarrely, everything I've heard from Kwabs so far, (including Love + War) is both. I've loved it straight away, and I can't get enough. Kwabs has been the ONLY music I've listened to now for nearly 2 months.

The album is full of real tunes - I mean tunes that get stuck in your head, that you want to have playing on repeat, over and over again. There are no fillers here. I predict this will be hugely successful, and it'll be one of those albums people look back to and say "that was the album that made the artist".

Great vocal and soulful songs. Kwabs manages to convey great soul emotion throughout his songs and deserves a wider audience. This man is a superb talent who should be supported.
