I received this book from Goddess Fish Promotions in return for a fair and honest review.

The Normans have invaded England and are literally on the warpath. Laila and her sister, Ead, are recovering from the invasion of their home and the deaths of their loved ones. Their home has been given to a Norman Lord and they must appease him unless they want to become homeless.

This is a gritty story that paints a story of what it might have been like during those times. At times, not easy to read due to the pictures in my mind, this was nevertheless a very satisfying read. Our heroine is a sassy female who has been allowed to live an unconventional life by her father and can shoot, hunt and fish with no assistance from a male. Do not ask her to sew, mind you!

As the story progresses you see how both main characters learn that the whole of a race can't be swiped by the same prejudices. There is good and bad in everyone and everything. Seeing them learn to trust and care for each other was wonderful. The secondary characters are just as well rounded - Hildred, Guy, Alyse and Hugh to name just some.

A brilliant historical romance with the right balance of realism and romance to make it a gripping read. Highly recommended.

A good plot and an original slant on the usual Norman warrior given Saxon heroines home type story. I would have given 5 stars but there were some parts of the story which would have benefited from more in depth explanations . That said I did enjoy this book and would certainly read this author again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love, honor, forgiveness and so much more 22 Feb. 2015

Of Love and Vengeance is a beautiful romance between a noble English woman and the Norman conqueror who lays claim to her home. This novel encompasses love, fear, hate, prejudice and loyalty.

Laila is a strong heroine who has seen her entire family save her infant nephew die either directly or indirectly at the hands of the Normans. She has only a handful of servants on her lands when Lord Aymon rides to her home. He is greeted with her arrows which nearly unman him.

Lord Ayman is given Laila’s lands by his half-brother the king and he is a tired warrior looking for some peace. He needs a wife and decides instantly upon Laila. She agrees only to protect her nephew but she is distrustful of Ayman and angry that this is her only option to protect those she loves.

What transpires after the leads marry is a story that resonates. Laila cannot give up her long held beliefs about Normans, and even though her husband seems to be different than the other Normans she has encountered her guard is rarely lowered. She misjudges him but she is still loyal. The tightrope Laila walks is tense and the reader can feel the growing passion developing between the leads.

Ayman is complex, more so than Laila. He is open and surprisingly honest about his hurtful past. His recounting of his life is heartbreaking and Laila is compassionate. There’s surprising vulnerability that he shows that is not always reciprocated by Laila, yet these two have a bond that keeps them stalwart defenders of each other.

Of Love and Honor has some unexpected turns and this happily ever after is rather different than other medieval romances but just as satisfying.

A Norman knight is given a castle by William the Conqueror. Finding the castle and surrounding land destroyed by other Norman troops, he marries the deceased Saxon Lord's daughter and works to bring prosperity back to his land and finds love that he never expected. Great Read from a new author, now on my to read list.****
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book 6 Feb. 2015

I very much enjoyed reading this book. It starts off fast and doesn't slow down until the end.
The two main characters are different in every way. The man being a great Norman warrior takes over a manor and tells the Lady of the house they are to be married the next day. He takes over all her land's. She agrees to marry only if th he people who are in manor can stay. He finally agrees. The Norman kings armory is ravaging England and killing everyone, innocents as well. Hiding English women and children is treasonous. The couple are accused of treason and sentenced to be hanged. What is to happen to them? Do they find love between themselves? What is to happen to baby Drake?
5.0 out of 5 stars A touching medieval love story 24 Mar. 2015

This is a beautiful, emotionally compelling romance that kept me turning pages well after when I should have been going to bed. I think the best compliment a book can get is that it kept a reader up at night breathlessly thinking "one more chapter, one more chapter" and that was this kind of book for me. The interactions between Aymon and Laila made me both laugh out loud and cry as the story progressed, and the ending was perfect, both unexpected and satisfying. I can't wait to see more from this author!
