The story follows the life of teenager Jo, who so far has been quite unlucky in love. All of her friends have boyfriends and she's sick of feeling like a third wheel and despite Jo's protests, her friends drag her to see a clairvoyant. Once there, the clairvoyant tells her that her true love is someone from her past live when she worked as a governess. Jo doesn't believe a word she's told because really, how can someone have a past life let alone a soul mate? However, Jo's friends won't let it lie and soon start a uncovering all the details about her past life. Can this all really be true? And will Jo find her one true love after all?
Love at Second Sight is such a cute and fun read. I literally read it within about 24 hours and once I started it, I found it a very addictive read. It was very easy to slip into these characters lives and experience everything they were experiencing because Cathy Hopkins make it a very vivid read. I could easily imagine myself walking through Camden Market and going to the fair. But what I liked most about this story was the journey the characters took to find Jo's past love. It was very exciting and it was really interesting to discover how you would go about finding a long lost loved one or even relative.
The love interests in the story really where a hard choice. I liked all three of them. Don't worry, there's no love triangle's in the story. It's simply Jo having to choose who she thinks is her soul mate.Read more ›
I was relieved to find that not only were her trademark touches of, as I've said above, humour, lightness of touch and depth of story there, she had developed them to even higher levels. The basic story is of a girl who is the only singleton alongst her friends. Alone in the world of coupledom, she is persuaded to join her girlfriends in their visit to a clairvoyant where, to her surprise, she is told that the love of her life is someone she met in a previous life. But it's not all mad and sad. She is told that she will find him in this life. What she is not told is how and where to find him. The world is a big place he could be anywhere! Fortunately for our heroine Jo, it turns out he could be one of the three boys in her current life. Phew!
If you go to Cathy Hopkins website you will find she is happily married and has a few cats. Fairly typical of a teen writer you might think. What is not typical about Ms Hopkins is how she manages to write so well in teen voices. Jo, like her namesake in 'Little Women' is a teen with guts and heart and the determination to find out if the clarevoyants she visits are all hocus pocus or is there really something in it. If you believe in coincidences and synchronicity, why not find out for yourself and read 'Love at Second Sight', even if you don't, you won't be disappointed.
Jo's story is interesting and a nice way to spend a few hours. The idea behind this book certainly works at peaking your interest and I guess depending on the your viewpoint on reincarnation it'll either pull work or not. For me Jo is a little too fussed on the boyfriend quest and I was surprised to find out she's 17 not younger. Jo starts out as a big skeptic but then in the second half of the book she's on a mission to find Howard.
Love at Second Sight is well written and has enough interesting moments to keep you turning the pages until the end. I think if I liked Jo a little more I would have been more involved in her quest but I still had fun reading.

The story wrote itself and was very predictable with what was going to happen but I love how it was written and enjoyed reading it anywayPublished 19 months ago by Kate Clason
Liked this book, got me thinking a lot about past lives and fate. But just a little too lovey dovey for me, i felt as if it was missing a climax. Great book all the same though! :)Published on 28 Aug. 2013 by St Ives
