Pearson ( Pea) has loved Connor almost all her life and at points through her life they have been in a relationship but during those times fate was not on their side. Pea now finds herself without the family she loved and the love of her life. Enter Dane ( he is one sexy mother f**ker) he helps Pea out of her funk and encourages her to start enjoying life once more. Pea feels a strong connection to Dane but is unable to put her finger on what it is and Dane harbours a sercet that could blow their friendship apart.
Pea is also keeping secrets from Connor, sercets so bad that she fears he will never be able to love her again !
This is a book of sercets and love, how they bind people and can potentionly break them and how they react to them. Intinally the story centres around Pea and Connor but we get insights into the life's of the others in the group which gives a depth to the story. There are many twists to the story keeping the reader on the edge of their seats, I'd like to say I guessed some but I'd be lying !!!!!
One of the things I like in a book is a good amount of banter between characters and this book has it in spades the conversations in this book had me laughing out loud ! There's a mixture of warmth, love and laughter in this debut novel making me eager to read more from Maria Macdoanald
From the off we meet Pea and her 3 friends that have been together forever their relationship is endearing and the love they share is apparent. It's hard not to want to be part of the gang and the way Maria writes, drags you straight in so you feel like you're one of them.
We find out that Pea and Con have been in a relationship but fate was not on their side, they still share a close friendship but it's purely platonic, cue the perfect setting for a second chance romance. The problem is Pea has secrets she's hidden from Con that mean their path to true love is anything but easy. Throw into that the mystery shrouding Saul and then the arrival of Dane and the possibilities are endless.
I love the way the book is written, it jumps from past to present but in a way that is not confusing or at all awkward. When Pea interrupted the present with her flashbacks I got annoyed thinking I want to know what's happening now and then as soon as I started reading the flashback I didn't want to go back to the present! My brain was conflicted what I really wanted was to know what was happening all at once, infact I wanted to know what was happening so badly that I stayed awake until 2.30am (even though I had to be up for work at 7) just to finish the book! I read the first 5 chapters separately and then devoured the rest in one whole sitting. Maria wrote beautifully and I was gripped from chapter to chapter.Read more ›
The book is about Pearson, Soph, Con and Saul who have been the best of friends since they were little and that friendship soon turned into love for Pearson and Con as they got older, but they were also like a family. I fell in love with Pearson and Con and thier journey through love, but as we all know love never runs smoothly and will test your limits. Pearson has secrets which have left her a broken soul and Saul is the only one who knows her deepest secrets and becomes her rock until a terrible accident which leaves Pea feeling alone and Soph and Con to try and piece her back together.
Maria's writing didn't fail in puting me through the emotional ringer, I went fron happy to sad to downright heartbroken and right back to happy. It is written beautifully and I felt everything the characters were feeling. I can't wait to read the next book and see what happens.
Pea (Pearson) is such a sweet, funny, sassy character. Her love for Conner has been set in stone pretty much her entire life. And even though they had a relationship, it just didn't work *SOB SOB SOB*. Pea also keeps some SERIOUS secrets from Conner that could potentially break the friendship they have made work. She moves on and starts a relationship with the sinfully hot Dane, but is he enough for her?
Conner......HO-LEE.......!!!! I haven't seen it called yet, so hell if I won't do it before everyone else! DIBS DIBS DIBS!!! Yup! Snooze you Lose!!
The friendships in this book are so real, relatable and so brilliantly written.
This book is full of laugh out loud moments, suspense, angst, heartfelt emotions, warm fuzzy feelings and just about every feeling you can encounter. Maria writes with a beautiful and charming style that makes this book completely UN-PUT-DOWNABLE!
5 STUNNING DEBUT STARS!
