I loved Hearts in Darkness, so I was happy when I found out the author was writing this sequel.

This book starts two months later and Makenna and Caden are dating and happy. Both of them know they're in love but they haven't yet told each other. Caden is struggling with loving Makenna as due to what happened in his past, he now worries that he loses everyone he loves. Caden has anxiety and insecurities. He worries he's not good enough for Makenna and that she deserves a better man but Makenna is happy with Caden, but oblivious to his insecurities.

This is a lovely story although unfortunately, it was unoriginal and entirely predictable but the fact they're such a lovely, sweet couple and Caden's struggles tugged at my heart strings so I was able to forgive the author the fact I could foresee each plot device!

In the end, like the previous book, this left me with a warm glow! I dropped half a star because at times, it was a bit too twee but I still loved it.

Makenna and Caden are back in this heartwarming tale of love, survival and second chances.

Hearts in Darkness still remains one of my favourite novellas of all time. I remember reading it on a rainy afternoon and it was the best way to spend a couple of hours on a gloomy day. I loved the idea of finding solace with a stranger in the dark. A broken down elevator was the start of a relationship based on openness and trust, manifesting into something solid and real.

However, the demons we harbour have a way of spreading doubt into our hearts, such is the case with Caden in this story as we learn more about his past and the horrors of what he endured one fateful night when the two people he loved most perished in a fatal accident. That event still plays a pivotal part today as he puts himself amidst the throes of the ill, hurt and dying, working as a paramedic, fighting to save others from the loss he endured.

Makenna is enamoured. She has never loved another like she loves Caden, not even her ex boyfriend Cameron who has made it known he still cares for her deeply. Caden is her light, even though he is hiding so much. She can feel his fear, his reluctance to let her in, but Makenna has been brought up by a loving Father and three older Brothers', she is strong, and won't let anything get in the way of what they have.

Fighting inner demons head on has always been a lonely existence, until now....

Love in the Light is beautifully crafted as what we have come to expect from Laura Kaye. This new full length sequel into the events that followed from that broken down dark elevator was a real gem, and to delve back into the lives of two likeable and strong characters proves that Kaye certainly does listen to her fans.

3.5 stars (rounded up because I really do love this couple!)

I absolutely loved Hearts in Darkness so I was thrilled when I found out Laura Kaye was writing a sequel. I couldn't wait to catch up with Caden and Makenna and see how they're doing as a couple after their unexpected meeting in a broken down elevator. This story picks up about 2 months on from where we left them, the couple have been pretty much inseparable since they met and they're both crazy about each other. Things have been going really well between them but Caden is still struggling with his PTSD and he's afraid to admit to his feelings for Makenna because he's convinced it's not going to last between them. Experience has taught him that nothing good ever lasts and he's just waiting for the floor to drop out from underneath him.

I loved both of these characters from the moment we met them and nothing has changed that here. I'm so pleased that Laura Kaye didn't take the easy route and have love magically fix all of Caden's issues. It's not at all surprising that his past is still having a major effect on him and I really liked how that side of the story was handled. I particularly liked the way Makenna tried to be there for him and she refused to give up on him because she knew he was being affected by the past, she didn't always know how to get through to him but I think most of us would be in a similar situation and I respected her determination. I loved the way most of Makenna's family welcomed Caden with open arms, I did end up very annoyed with one of her brother's reaction to him though. Just because he has tattoos and piercings does not make him a bad person - he's a paramedic for crying out loud and obviously not some waste of space low life!

I read a lot of books. I'm a fast reader. It takes a pretty good one for it to stay with me and get a re-read. Hearts in darkness by Laura Kaye was one of those books. It's been a while since I first read it but it definitely is a big fave of mine.

When I found out that there was going to be a sequel I was like 'hell yes!' lol.

This book follows two months after the events of the first book. Caden and Makenna are now a couple looking forward to their first thanksgiving and Christmas together.

It was soo nice to read more about these two. I've loved them since the first book and it was like catching up with old friends. I love Caden in the first book (top ten book boyfriend) and I still did. I love his goodness and his vulnerability. He's a flawed hero but beautiful inside and out.

Makenna is a great character. She's warm and kind but she has a quiet inner strength. She's accepting of all of Caden and I love that about her. They're both very well written characters that you can connect with and care about.

The story is written brilliantly and the plot flows nicely. I devoured this in one sitting and finished with a great big smile on my face.

I enjoyed every second of this. It was warm and sweet at times but emotionally charged as well. I loved reading their journey.

As this is a sequel it probably wouldn't make a lot of sense without reading that first but I would urge you to read that too as it's awesome. As is this.

I loved reading this and would definitely recommend.
