I fell in love with luke and Derek they stole my heart
I could feel the connection between them on every page it was perfect
By the you finish Derek and Luke's journey your heart is full
The story is told in first person POV, alternating chapters between Derek and Luke. I believe that this is the only first person POV story that I've read by RJ Scott. I have to admit that first person POV isn't my favorite but I've come to realize that the author has a lot to do with my enjoyment of this POV. RJ Scott is on my list of favorite authors and she did a great job telling this story.
I love fake boyfriend (or girlfriend) stories, add in the fact that this is a Christmas story and that makes it all that much better. The fact that Derek is paying for Luke's services as a boyfriend complicates their growing relationship. Once they finally start talking to each other things start to work out.
I usually judge books by how much they engage my emotions. I admit that it took a bit longer for that to happen with this story (Derek was kind of a jerk in the beginning) but once I became fully invested in Derek and Luke's situation the tears came. That's a perfect indication of how much a story touches my heart. There were wonderful and respectful mentions of nine-eleven in the story. Luke's father and uncle were heroes and casualties of that terrible day.
I have to mention how much I love the cover for this book and the great way it ties into the story. I'm also quite fond of the name that RJ has given to one of the kittens. 😊
RJ Scott always delivers an HEA for her characters and I loved the epilogue that gives an insight into how Derek and Luke are doing a year down the road.
An advanced copy of this book was provided to me but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.

But things don't go quite as planned for either and as title suggests, love happens anyway.
This was so lovely, I adored all of it! My only criticism is that it was too bloody short! :)
I’m not one for cute and sweet and I usually avoid holiday romances - but I really loved this. It’s a modern fairytale. At its simplest, it’s the story of an awkward CEO falling for an injured fireman. But like any classic English romance, things aren’t quite so simple.
Luke is wonderful. As readers, we don’t know his secrets until we’re a good ways into the story. We know he isn’t the escort he is pretending to be. We know that he’s sad and often sombre but he’s a very sweet, very enigmatic mystery.
Derek is the new CEO of his family business and he is struggling to replace his father and make this company his own. He is socially awkward and he struggles in his relationships. I love the way Luke lends him confidence and smooths his social interactions.
I don’t want to give too much away but there is something a little bit magical about this story. I believed in Derek and Luke. I wanted them to be together and I loved the way they made each other better men. It’s the characters that make this story special and I fell hard for them both.
Love certainly happened to me when reading this. I ad.or.ed. it!
This book was always going to be special as I won it in a competition and I thank RJ Scott for not only picking me as the winner, but also for writing it.
Forget anything you have read about not judging a book by it's cover. Judge this book by its cover. That cute, happy and cheeky snowman conveys exactly what delight you can expect inside. The snowman is ad.or.able, and the storyline is cutey ad.or.ableness.
Fake boyfriend stories are a winner for every true romance reader and this one is a Gold Cup Winner.
I will reread this one time and time again, whether it's snuggled in front of a Christmas fire or sunbathing on a golden beach, so don't wait until Christmas 2018, read it now.
