So the story is by one of my top 5 authors. Liz writes male povs like no other and I always have to remind myself that a lady is writing. She also writes strong family tales of love, loyalty and laughter with a touch of sadness and family feuds for good measure. Strong, flawed and depth of characters are also her forte.
Ok so enough about Liz's awesomeness. I love love me a dialogue heavy book and hers are great for that. This one did not disappoint. I enjoyed the southern vibe very much. Her characters tend to grab you by the short and curlys from the get go and Aiden did for me. Even though he's a naughty boy, you wear his Team Aiden t shirt with pride. The Love scenes are saucy (pun intended), being that they are half Italian (I am also Italian) obviously they would be.
Was it unputdownable? Yes, I work and have a 2 yr old boy (not unlike the rumbustious Love boys specifically Dom) and housework to do but I managed to finish in two evenings of hardcore sessions as I just wanted to know how it was going to pan out.
It ended with a twisty HEA that sometimes you just need to have in life. Unlike some of Liz's other books but I enjoyed that. The book I read before this was a super dark read so I needed heartwarming and lighthearted.
The question on my lips and what I look for in reviews is...was it worth my time and pennies? Even though I had it free, yes I absolutely would pay and it was worth every minute of my time to escape somewhere in Kentucky for a bit. I will buy the rest of the series and hope that the girls in the Love family all get a book too.Read more ›
This is a really tricky review to write and I've been pondering it and how to adequately express myself while fairly and honestly conveying my feelings and I'm still a little stuck - but here goes anyway.
So I'll start with the fact that this is NOT a steamy hot, action packed, detailed story. Far from it but don't let that put you off. There is still enough meat to sink your teeth into...just of the more sugary variety.
This story struck me as far more analytical, full of family dynamics and sibling rivalries spanning years. What more would you expect from 4 brothers, all competitive but fiercely loyal. Add some women into the mix and there's sure to be drama in abundance.
Love Garage is the first book in the Love Brothers series. It's the perfect introduction to the Love family and slowly allows you to get to know each of the brothers.
Of course that leads to a whole other set of questions and problems...when it comes to the crunch, do you stay loyal and do the right thing, putting your own wants and desires aside, or is it each to his own and damn the consequences, feelings or family bonds that will be put in jeopardy.
I found the beginning of the story a little slow to get going. I'm sure that's because we're getting to know so many characters and it certainly does pick up as you near the halfway point.
However, I also felt that it all ended rather abruptly. Without giving anything away, the story comes to ahead and things are finally revealed but I kind of felt cheated in that no sooner was all revealed, then the immediate reactions of those involved was left out and the story skipped ahead again. I wanted to know what those reactions were!
All in all, as I said above, I found this more of a psychological, analytical story and I did enjoy it. There's no cliffhanger but I look forward to finding out more about the next brother, when he gets his own story in Coach Love, book #2.
