I was sceptical about this series when I first started it out but other reviewers said the same - zombie apocalypse isn't a theme one goes for. I was pleasantly surprised! Loved how things were constantly changing, just when you think you've figured out how things are going to go, they DON'T (but note that the twists don't leave you unpleasantly shocked). There is a natural flow to the change of circumstances and I love that about Higginson.

The characters are awesome. I LOVED Reagan! Of course I opted to ignore any vision in my mind of the Parkers that had beards or sufficient stubble but that's just me :D

Usually very irritable when it comes to editing mistakes and repetition, all those peeves I have been able to swat aside in light of the story. It is brilliant. I am looking forward to season 2 and here is the best part - Higginson will not leave you desperately hanging (*cough* Andrea Creamer *cough*); there is sufficient closure to the series and I for one like NOT obsessing over far release dates! :) Thank you Rachel, this is one I will be re-reading over and over. It has become one of my favourites and led me to read the Star-crossed series - also brilliant and I would recommend, recommend, recommend. :)

I love this series!

Episode Twelve! Wow! They were all brilliant but Episode Twelve...Reagan, you kick arse girl!

How am I going to survive without this series?! Without Hendrix and Reagan?! And Vaughan and Nelson and Haley and King and Harrison and little Page?!

So excited to see that Episode One, Series Two is out on Valentine's Day, two days after my birthday. Treat myself time, I think :D

Rachel, you are brilliant!

I stumbled across Rachel Higgingson quite recently, having read Bet in the Dark that I found on the Kindle Bestseller freebie list. This lead me onto reading her star-crossed series which was also brilliant, and I'm now working my way through the rest of her books. Love and Decay is a great addition to the NA genre, with a twist since it's set in the Zombie Apocalypse. There aren't explicit scenes like you find in the NA trend nowadays, as Rachel doesn't go down this path, but this doesn't in any way detract from the emotion of the story, and you still invest as heavily in all of the characters without unnecessary scenes to distract from the action going on.

Brief synopsis: Regan and Hayley have spent 2 years trying to stay alive and escape the Zombie 'feeders', when they run into the Parker family (5 sexy brooding brothers and 1 little sister) with whom they join forces and ultimately fall in love. This second volume charts the group as they try and escape not just Zombies, but the evil in mankind they come across as well. Kane in particular is a scary prospect - can't wait to see where Rachel takes him! It's a different series in that it's written almost as a TV series, in novella 'episodes' that are originally released every fortnight. It would have been easy to end this 'season' 20 pages sooner on the most frustrating cliffhanger (as would happen on TV), but without giving anything away thank you Rachel for such a satisfying ending, that still leaves you wanting more but doesn't make you throw your kindle at the wall in frustration at having to wait months until the continuation of the story.

4.5 stars -- A solid second half to the first season. Lots of twists and turns, awesome action, a bit more depth for the Allen family story, and the most AMAZING romance moments. I like the idea of these serials that seem to be popular now, but just like my tv watching, I have very little patience so I like the netflix way of binge watching...or in this case, waiting for a volume of episodes and then reading them all in a row. It requires me to wait longer between volumes (then just 2 weeks between episodes), but then I can just DEVOUR IT! So if you're like me, I HIGHLY recommend buying these volumes. They let you enjoy the serials, without going crazy waiting for more....well, until the end of the volume.

And the great part about this volume??? It includes a novella of Hendrix's POV (around the episode 1 timeline). Talk about an epic bonus!!!

I liked the first book enough to purchase the second - but then lost complete interest when the female characters turned into simpering idiots over the "men" - was really disappointing that the girls were smart enough and strong enough to survive 2 years on the road alone - but turn into insecure and vapid females ( that any girl with a brain and self respect detests) as soon as a guy comes along and their emotional immaturity when it comes to anything resembling a relationship was amusing at first but got pathetic very quickly - shame as this series started out promising but turned into yet another " girl desperately needs a guy to make her feel worthy but is so insecure about herself she'll act like a brainless idiot instead of a functioning human being " soap opera .
