Product Description

After six years at Columbia, Aretha Franklin signed with Atlantic Records in 1967 and unleashed a stunning array of hit singles during the mid-sixties to the mid-seventies including Respect , Chain Of Fools , Spanish Harlem and Until You Come Back To Me (That s What I m Going To Do). LOVE ALL THE HURT AWAY was Aretha s sophomore release for Arista Records in 1981. It spent 26 weeks in the R&B chart peaking at #4, it also made #36 in the Pop chart with sales of around a quarter of a million. LOVE ALL THE HURT AWAY reached the #6 position and #46 in the Pop charts. This is a duet with George Benson HOLD ON I M COMIN , a Sam & Dave cover, gained Aretha her 11th Grammy Award (for Best R&B Vocal Performance - her first Grammy since 1974). This was the second UK single and received a lot of play in discos. IT S MY TURN is a cover of Diana Ross which gained Aretha the #29 position in the R&B chart. Released in deluxe Super Jewel cases, with three bonus tracks, LOVE ALL THE HURT AWAY is a must for all Soul and Funk fans out there!

Love All The Hurt Away finds Queen Aretha in soulful command of each glorious song on this CD. Highlights include the beautiful title duet with George Benson, her stunning version of Diana's It's My Turn, Kind Of Man, Living In The Streets, and her Grammy winning remake of Sam and Dave's Hold On I'm Coming. Search On is further evidence that this is a strong and consistent production from start to finish; there honestly isn't a bad track to be heard. The bonus material and outstanding liner notes by Christian John Wikane, only add to the enjoyment of this top class reissue by Big Break Records. Queen Aretha has never sounded better than on this material, soul fans, so be good to your ears (and soul!) and buy this jewel in her crown, today!

This was the second of four amazing albums Aretha Franklin made for Arista in the early eighties, and it really does contain some of her best singing. I know many people feel nothing compares to her sixties hits, but I love her music from these years, and don't find the production overworked, in fact it cushions her voice very well. I really like that slight burnished quality her sound had developed at this time, as if it had really come into its fullness like a flower in full bloom. Hold on I'm comin' is absolutely electrifying, You can't always get what you want is a brilliant cover, while some of the ballads have that superb heartfelt quality that is so much the hallmark of her style (It's my turn, or Kind of man, or There's a star for everyone). In fact there isn't a weak link in the sequence, and Aretha handles the melodies with that subtle sense of rhythm and pitch that has an incredible smoothness. She is inspired in every phrase - you have to think, quite simply, she was born to sing. The following album, Jump to it, is also sensational.

In my opinion this would have to be one of Aretha's great albums & pieces of work.
It's hard to believe it was originally released in 1981 as the production is so contemporary - the song choices so relevant.
The opening track with George Benson set the style and tone for this CD. It's smooth, it rocks and the ballads soar. Quite
spectacular. Very pleased to have this extended version.

I bought my copy for the reason that it's a BBR release even though I already had its first cd-release from the 90's. I really like this album by Aretha as it's a bit different as you might expect from her. No songs from this album were selected for her 1994 Arista Greatest Hits set, even though its one of her best Arista offering.About 4 or 5 uptempo dance tracks, including the gemm "Livin' in the Streets", a single not availlable anywhere else. What really made me desperate for buying this release is the inclusion of the 12'' versions. I do not care all too much for some of the ballads but that's a personal matter of taste.
As what you can expect from BBR is thei inclusion of excellent well thought liner notes and pictures. Highly recommended!
