From the makers of Notting Hill and Bridget Jones Diary comes the ultimate romantic comedy. This blockbuster film includes a fantastic all-star cast and an outstanding soundtrack. The hilarious Love Actually explores the ups and downs of relationships in the weeks building up to Christmas. Boyfriends and girlfriends, husbands and wives, fathers and sons and rock stars and managers all combine to make Love Actually not just one story but ten very different ones.
Because if you look hard enough you will find that love actually is all around.
With no fewer than eight couples vying for our attention, Love Actually is like the London Marathon of romantic comedies, and everybody wins. Having mastered the genre as the writer of Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill, and Bridget Jones's Diary, it appears that first-time director Richard Curtis is just like his screenplays: he just wants to be loved, and he'll go to absurdly appealing lengths to win our affection. With Love Actually, Curtis orchestrates a minor miracle of romantic choreography, guiding a brilliant cast of stars and newcomers as they careen toward love and holiday cheer in London, among them the Prime Minister (Hugh Grant) who's smitten with his caterer (Martine McCutcheon); a widower (Liam Neeson) whose young son nurses the ultimate schoolboy crush; a writer (Colin Firth) who falls for his Portuguese housekeeper; a devoted wife and mother (Emma Thompson) coping with her potentially unfaithful husband (Alan Rickman); and a lovelorn American (Laura Linney) who's desperately attracted to a colleague. There's more--too much more--as Curtis wraps his Christmas gift with enough happy endings to sweeten a dozen other movies. That he pulls it off so entertainingly is undeniably impressive; that he does it so shamelessly suggests that his writing fares better with other, less ingratiating directors. --Jeff ShannonSee all Product description

Best romantic-comedy film of all time? I'll be honest: I'm your average bloke who doesn't tend to watch that genre (I haven't seen Bridget Jones's Diary) but I can say it's a very amusing film in parts and it made me feel all warm inside and put a smile on my grumpy face! The opening and closing scenes of the film take something which is so mundane and turn it into a magical experience which restores your faith in humanity.
The cast is exceptional and is chock-a-block with stars such as Hugh Grant, Liam Neeson, Colin Firth, Keira Knightley and Rowan Atkinson. I was already a big fan of 'The Walking Dead' before I first saw Love Actually so it was really weird seeing Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes) doing a British accent in a romcom (I'm aware he's British-just use to the American accent in TWD!)
In addition to the exceptional cast the soundtrack is absolutely amazing: Dido, Bay City Rollers, The Beach Boys, The Beatles (well, a cover of a Beatles song) and the choice of music for the scenes is faultless. There is a great scene in the film which you have probably already seen in an internet meme and that's Hugh Grant (who plays the British Prime Minister in the film) dancing to 'Jump (For My Love)' by the Pointer Sisters.
As for the plot, well it's pretty obvious it's all about romance-we see the journey of several couples/people about to become couples in the film and it's wonderful how it all comes together. If you haven't already seen it you're missing out big-time and I expect it will become a tradition for me to watch this every Christmas and who knows...maybe I'll have someone to share it with next Christmas!
This film on paper is a horrible saccharine yawn fest. But somehow out of the mangled mess something great is wrangled, by incredibly talented people at the top of their game. Its as if after an infinite number of romantic comedies the law of chance decided that this is THE ONE, this is one perfect romantic comedy that will forever define the genre. Go on buy it! Watch it. Watch it again, every single year at Christmas for the end of time.
I'm going to watch it just before Christmas stroking my big manly beard and my sharp tooth dog. And I will be crying and laughing, and my wife will be looking at me as if I was having a breakdown. And you know what I don't care, because for the brief*** 2 hours 16 I will be transported to a place of heart ache and joy, and I always, always come out of it feeling better.
*this isn't true.
**warning over exposure to Bill Nighy will make you want to laugh in a Nighy fashion
*** okay its quite long
