A beautiful book...It's filled with so much information about Kahn's major projects. Interesting, well-written text and dozens of sketches and model photos accompany each major project. I'd never heard of Grant Mudford, but his big, color photos are beautiful. There's a list of all of Kahn's projects and buildings from the 1920s until his death in 1974, and a section of Kahn's travel sketches and artwork. The pages are large, the print quality is impressive, and the impeccable graphic design, by Massimo Vignelli with Abigail Sturges, suits Kahn's style perfectly. And it's a good buy, too.

To be read in one go, cherished and reread when in need... The opening sentence in the Preface, by Julia Moore Converse reads: "Architect, philosopher, artist, and teacher, Louis I. Kahn inspired students through his work and teaching, drawing followers to Philadelphia from all over the world. In the last twenty-five years of his life, he redefined architecture for his generation."
This was the man, and this was the place, and this volume, no doubt, provides the ultimate insight into his work. Treading gently around personal issues, thus concentrating exclusively on built and never published drawings, the authors have assembled a timeless piece, which through a superb high quality layout, tells the story of Kahn. And it is a touching story - an inspiring one. Unlike so many great epics, the ending is, of course, tragic, though may symbolise the beginning for many... Louis I. Kahn (1901-1974).

A beautiful book from the Thames & Hudson stable...packed with a huge amount of detail, text, drawings, great photographs: a worthy addition to my architecture library, sadly lacking until now! And I thought I knew about all the world's great architects, how wrong I was! The book reaches into the soul of Louis I Kahn, his passion, his love of creating enclosed space & its relationship to the world beyond.
