I have to admit that I'm a bit of an anorak on this kind of thing, and test card music is becoming quite the retro cool genre of music to be into. It all kicked of with the Apollo label's release of volume one of test card classics. The opening track, 'flying over san jose' brought back memories. Then I bought the uber rare compilations, Girl in a suitcase upgraded, Music While You Watch, and Watch With Teacher (which is a Winchester Hospital radio release focusing on schools and colleges music, which I have previously reviewed). I found this completely by chance. and, as previous reviewers have observed, cd1 is the superior one! Who would have thought that the musical mastermind behind the musical, The War Of The Worlds, composed the Good Morning Britain theme? I have a longer version of it somewhere! I remember getting ready for school and hearing the extended version playing alongside an IBA transmission message. They were usually white writing on a blue background! But, back to the present! The particular faves for me were the ITV schools theme, (which was technically ITV Schools and Colleges theme music played between shows, but the programmes were broadcast on Channel four in the early 1990s), and Plunge In, the theme to Scotsport! Being Scottish, I can recall many a Sunday afternoon back in the day, in front of the footie, and Arthur Montford being the anchorman of this Scottish staple sports show! You could really shake your bon bons (whatever they are! I'm not Ricky Martin!) to that track! Notably, another track care of Monsieur Wayne had me raiding my mental attic trying to think where I'd heard it before! The clue was in the name of the track, World of Sport! (Just to clarify, the theme to the tv show featuring Dickie Davies, of the same name, is called Sporty Type, and can be found on Girl in a Suitcase upgraded! This one, however, was featured on the Chris Moyles Radio 1 breakfast show, when trusty sidekick Comedy Dave read out the sporting news!). So, now you know! It's really rather good, but misses out on the five stars because I would have preferred much more along the lines of long lost TV themes that are better known to us than purely obscure test card tunes.

Some good themes from the past but far to many "fillers" of library music and suchlike, would have been better to have had more well known music like old radio or tele themes but ones that people have heard of, half of the ones on this CD could be background music in a shop, but on the plus side it is all for charity so good luck !!

This is the second Library compilation by Chichester Hospital Radio. Compiled by Steven Wills who produced a number of similar themed CDs for Winchester Hospital Radio, this release features a selection of familiar and not so familiar Library sounds that would, as explained in the sleeve notes, otherwise have remained "locked in the vaults".
Sourced from, amongst others, the archives of De Wolfe, JW Media, Studio G, Southern Music and Boosey & Hawkes, the music was used for UK radio and TV programmes, test card transmissions and radio intervals. The majority of the music is upbeat easy listening with plenty of jazzy and funky numbers, lush big band orchestrations, 80's synth music and the occasional trippy vibe. As with most Library music, the musicianship and arrangements are never less than exceptional, as is the sound quality. Where known, Wills has included details of where the tracks were used.
Housed in a jewel case, the combined playing time of both CDs is a very generous 2½ hours and this is another essential purchase for anyone with an interest in Library music. I don't know how many copies of this CD have been printed but if the CDs Wills produced for WHR are anything to go by, it's probably a limited run (it's worth noting that some of the WHR CDs have been known to fetch three figure sums!). All proceeds received from the sale of this CD will be used to fund the daily radio service provided for patients by Chichester Hospital Radio.

I have to say I was a little worried that we wouldn't get any more compilations compiled by Steven Wills and WHR and then before you know it one turns up, but he's now jumped ship to Chichester Hospital Radio.
Lost In Transmission is a real return to form after the disappointing, well for me, compilations since the legendary Girl In A Suitcase. There are some real gems on here such as Screen Test, Whickers World, Gurney Slade and even Good Morning Britain brings a smile.
It's funny how a little snippet of music can transform you back 35 years or so. Some of the music from schools takes me back to sitting cross-legged looking up at that massive teak TV set on a stand, it was great to here the Vision On incidentals and James Aldenham's "Just a Minute". It states this was Channel 4 schools but I'm sure I heard this a lot earlier in the late 70's. Maybe it's just nostalgia playing tricks on my mind.
CD 1 is undoubtedly the best of the two here with the aforementioned tracks above (apart from Whicker's World on CD 2) with some stellar tracks from Johnny Pearson and the International Studio Group. CD 2 is more of your test card filler and whilst there are some nice tracks on here, I've heard similar before on other compilations.
As someone else pointed out it's best to grab these compilations quickly as before you know it they're priced at £50+ on eBay! It's great to have Steven back with a new compilation and maybe being at Chichester will give him the excuse to re-issue some of those WHR classics to a whole new audience and make some money for a worthy cause at the same time.
