I was so excited to start reading this second book and I wasn't disappointed! It's full of drama and suspense! The main character Kailin is an all round Wonder Woman! She's so brave and a great fighter and has so much to deal with in this book!
I was on the edge of my seat throughout. We hear about Prophecies and secret organisations, travel through portholes to new realms! I don't want to spoil anything so I'll just say the end of this book has me needing to read the next straight away!
This series must be read in order. This one follows on directly from the first.
Our heroine Kailin must rescue her friend and her mother from the realm of the wraiths. She also has to find out where her sister is and rescue her.
Kailin's grandmother pops in and gives her some very useful trinkets.
When a wound that Kailin received goes poisonous Logan uses his fire magic to lessen the symptoms. The poison just subsides but then flares up again. That will not stop her from fighting and killing the demons that need killing.
Very exciting non stop action. Some new characters both good and very bad ones. The sweet romance is coming along nicely.
Now I have the A.R.C. of book #3 to read. I'm a lucky girl.

She’s come out of Book One wounded, in pain, and not getting better. Add to this, an impossible situation—two sets of people are relying on her help, each set is in escalating trouble, and Kai is the only person who can help them. Her mother is stuck in the Wraith World, and her sister, Greer, is stuck in the Greylands. Neither can get out on her own. Both will be destroyed if they stay where they are. Time’s running out for them. Rescue is technically impossible.
But of course Kai doesn’t let a word like “impossible” stop her. Her only real decision is about who to go after first.
It’s not an easy choice to make—but those involving family rarely are. Add a lifetime's angst and guilt to the mix and the decision is even more difficult. Kai’s heart tells her to get her mother, but her conscience tells her to go after Greer.
Only problem there is that while all families keep secrets, Kai’s family keeps more secrets than most. Unfortunately, those secrets also have the potential to kill her if she doesn’t find out what they are. Like the human world the “other” world operates on a system of exchange. Not necessarily money, but favours owed, and blood debts that can get you killed.
It’s just as well Kai has some excellent friends to call on. I loved Lily (and Gracie, of course!). Saleem also appealed to me. I mean, who wouldn’t want a gorgeous djinn guarding their back.
Its nice to believe in redemption, that even bad people can make choices that in the end turn them from darkness to light, that they face the consequences of their choices and actions and move on to become better people. But when bad people start to make good choices it isn’t easy to to forgive them when you’re the one who’s been hurt, and I found this aspect of LOST SOUL thought-provoking.
Love doesn’t always make sense, but in the end you make the choices you know you can live with, and that’s what Kai does in the book. It’s also why I think she’s a great heroine, and deserves her friends, and the loyalty they have for her.
Great book, Ms. Ayer! Keep them coming.
With a little help from her old friends and some new, it is Kai’s job once more to save those she loves from danger. Finding herself in an unknown plain she has to trust her new sidekick and a nervous ghost to have her back, and help her return before she is completely lost to the Wraith poisoning.
Now although I thought Lost Soul was a little slow to start compared to Skin Deep, it did pick up quickly, and once the full on action started, it really was an exciting read.
With lots of new characters to weigh up, and hoping for the reappearance of some who were missing, Lost Soul was another all consuming read. I was yet again sucked up into a world of magical beings, alternative plains of existence, and an ever-changing enemy who would love nothing more than to see Kai die.
A few unforeseen plot twists and a sexy kiss or two, mixed with some kick ass action and witty banter make for another awesome trip into the DarkWorld. I can’t wait to see what is in store for this crazy motley crew of paranormals in the next book. 5 stars.
