All in all, this was an enjoyable enough read. There was plenty of drama and angst throughout this one, a story that leaves you curious as to how it will play out, and yet I wasn’t crazy about this. In theory it should have ticked all of my boxes, but I never really felt the connection to the story that I had been hoping for. It was interesting, but it was not sucked in as deeply as I would have liked to be.
I think one of the reasons for my inability to become as attached as I could have been was the length of this one. It wasn’t an overly long story, but at times it felt as though it was. Things seemed to go in circles somewhat, they did not feel as though they were moving forward. I wanted to know what was going to happen, yet there were points when I did not feel as though we were moving towards answers. Due to this, there were times when I found my attention slipping slightly.
Although enjoyable, this wasn’t quite what I had expected. I may go and read the prior book, and then come back to this one, to see if my view changes with more knowledge – however, it is not something that is very high up my list of things to do.
From start to finish this was more than just a read, it was an emotional journey that didn’t take any prisoners, it didn’t hold back so make sure you hold on tight because you will be gasping by the end…if you are lucky.
There are situations in the book that might not be of the light and fluffy persuasion but please don’t let that deter you, this is worthy of your time and effort, you will not be disappointed nor will you forget, this is a story that will stay with you for a long time.
I felt frustration at both Nico and Layla as their journey progressed but I think that said more about me than them and the fact that they drew me in to their story so completely. I felt totally engulfed and lived every line with them.
I finished the book wondering what I could do to ensure that I could have more of the same, this is an author that has shot to the top of my TBR list and if I could I would implore her to give this pair another outing or if that isn’t possible then please let us see a little more of some of the sensational secondary characters that have more than a fleeting impact on a story that can only be labelled as …MUST READ
This book starts about 2 months after they have separated. Although their lives took them in different directions Nico and Layla stay in touch. Their story is one full of emotions. At times I found myself upset with the both of them and the decision they made. Yet, I could understand why they made them. I was super saddened by some of the situations Layla finds herself in. My heart broke for her and I most definitely cried. Through it all though I felt hopeful that Layla and Nico’s undying love for each other would eventually bring them back to one another.

Layla and Nico are outstanding characters, trying desperately to navigate their way through their daily lives, knowing that they can't be together, but are lost when they're apart. Their struggles are real, the emotions and desires even more so. Layla's world is shattered and no matter how she tries to cope or fix it, she fails. The traumas that she undergoes, at the hand of another, broke my heart. Nico is a man who continually shows his strength and love. He is an amazing man who will do just about anything for the woman that he loves - even keeping secrets. These two really belong together - but it is stubbornness and dreams that often interfere. So often it is said, in order to truly understand love we must set that who we love free in hope they will return - this is definitely true for Layla and Nico.
A stunning story that had me inexplicably trapped from beginning to end. Cannot wait to see where Ms French takes this story next. Once again an absolutely highly recommended read.

FIVE BRILLIANT STARS (not nearly enough though)
Love! Love! Love! So many emotions, so many feelings. All the characters were just amazing. I never want to stop. So yes Bad Idea series is getting so much more then I ever expected...sorry I had to add more. Their story will stay with you long after reading. I'm still enthralled by this series and this book. "Saudade" is my favorite and once you read this you'll understand and love it too.
Going into Lost Ones, I knew that Nicole French was exceedingly talented. Her books are very character driven, and multilayered. They are exceedingly well written. Since Lost Ones is the second book in a trilogy, I knew that I loved the characters and I was excited to resume the tale of love between Nico and Layla. Having said all this, I cannot adequately express the emotions that Nicole summoned in me between the pages of this book. I read it and immediately wanted to start it over from the beginning. I saw so much character progression between Bad Idea and Lost Ones. More then I was prepared for. By the end of Bad Idea, Nico and Layla have discovered a love that is life altering. But they also discovered that to love that completely, one must be willing to let the other person go. Lost Ones continues with hardships and obstacles that exist aren’t limited to distance. Nico must learn what it is to live away from the only city he has ever known, and Layla’s world completely collapses. Those issues are really just the tip of the iceberg. Lost Ones contains elements which were hard to read due to the subject matter. The angst in this book is jacked up about a trillion percent… and while romance readers take for granted that ever present HEA, they shouldn’t discount the journey their hero and heroine must undertake to reach that HEA.
I am not ashamed of my social media stocking of all things Nicole French [ 😉 ] or my endless requests for book three – when book two isn’t even released to the public yet. (Thank the lord I am a blogger and got this before that because I was having Nico withdrawls…) In discussing Lost Ones, it was suggested that I was completely in denial and potentially too close to certain characters of this story, BUT that’s just rubbish! Ha-Ha. I thoroughly LOVED this book and wouldn’t hesitate to offer it as a ten star read. Clearly with the early reviews I am seeing I am not the only one who feels strongly about this book. Also, I have no doubt that one day Nicole French will someday have a traditional publishing deal like many A-list authors as opposed to being an indie author. Her storytelling abilities exceed many of these so-called A-list authors that I have read. But don’t take my word for it. You should absolutely buy the book and read it for yourself. I am sure you will agree with my critique of both the author and the books she has released to date.
