Saoirse O’Mara is a multilingual writer, born in Germany but home only in her heart and her fantasy. From the mo-ment she was able to string words together, she was lost to the magic of the written words. FEEDBACK

Author: Saoirse O’Mara
Title: The Lost Diadem

COVER: 8/10
The children thought the cover was very good. They liked the image of the two children and they thought the lettering was age and genre-appropriate. When it was held up to a class, they all guessed correctly that the book was an ‘adventure book for children’.

CONTENT 7/10
The children very much enjoyed this story. They liked all the plot twists and they thought the two central characters were interesting and fun to follow. They also thought Govin was resourceful and brave, particularly when he rescued Tayla. They also thought the cliffhanger at the end of the book was well thought out and made them want to read the next book in the set.
The biggest problem was the length of the story. Almost all of the 11 and 12 year olds who read it thought it was way too short and felt frustrated that it ended so soon. Consequently, the children scored it rather low despite the fact that they thought it was good.

EDITING 8/10
The children (and teachers) discovered no grammatical, punctuation of spelling problems in the story. However, they felt it slowed a little in the middle and that a good editor would have insisted you lengthen the story to include more adventure and character development.

STYLE 7/10
The children thought the story flowed very well. They understood all of the words and they liked that there was lots of speech. However, a few thought the two characters spoke in a very similar way. One reader (girl, aged 12) put, ‘Tayla and Govin come from very different backgrounds but they spoke exactly the same way.

I really enjoyed what I hope is going to be the start of an exciting series. I loved Govins story and the twists of fate that lead to the adventure he embarks on. It was all very well thought out and moved along nicely with some great characters in support and there is pretty much something for everyone with action, treachery and a little romance brewing away. Easy to recommend to other fans of this genre.

My first book by Saoirse OMara and very enjoyable it was. The storyline was well thought out and I thought the dynamics between her main characters worked really well. The problem with fantasy fiction is that it is hard to find an original theme but I see the start of an intriguing series here and am interested to find out where it goes next. I hope the sequel won't be far way.

An entertaining read with some interesting plot twists and characters to keep you reading. Not the most original book I have read in this genre but well written and enough action/intrigue to keep the pages turning. Interested in seeing what the author releases next and have her on my watch list...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for pre-teens 30 May 2014
By Timothy Callahan - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
Very short and quick read, took me two days to read it and I'm not that quick of a reader. Found the story interesting but not spectacular. The writing was geared toward the young audience and, as a first book for pre-teens just getting into reading genre fiction, you could do worse.

4.0 out of 5 stars I liked this, though I thought it was much too ... 1 July 2014

I liked this, though I thought it was much too short! The author could have done so much with more space -- but I'll read it to my son this summer, because I really think he'll enjoy it.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great for a younger child! 5 Sept. 2013
By Nikki Yager - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
This story was great! The friendship built between Tayla, a starving street girl, and Govin, a trainee for the guard, is one of those relationships you don't think will work out. It's very simple to read and follow, so it would be perfect for children to get their hands on.
5.0 out of 5 stars Good story 8 Sept. 2013
By Jesus Delgado - Published on Amazon.com

The only problem with this book is because is short. I wanted to know more about the characters, because the story immediatly sucks you in; the relationship between Tayla and Govin is very interesting and keep you wondering how this will keep in the future.

This book is a fantastic YA fantasy. the only problem I had with it, is that it is too short. :-)
