Product Description

Based on the classic novel Lost Christmas is an Urban Fairy Tale set in Manchester. The film tells the story of how a series of tragic events blighting a young boy s life one Christmas Eve take him on a journey where a chance meeting with a mysterious stranger may have the key to help and give him a perfect Christmas. Goose is a ten year old boy who on Christmas Eve not thinking about his actions hides his father s car keys in the hope that he won t leave to attend an urgent emergency rescue. This is a decision Goose will always regret. As his mother gets her keys and drives his dad to work, Goose doesn t realize that this is the last time he will see his parents as ten minutes later his mother and father are killed in a car crash. Flash forward a year and its Christmas Eve once again, we see Goose is no longer the bright, energetic ten-year-old boy he once was, and is now a streetwise kid who is supporting his Nan through petty crime. Enter Anthony a mysterious enigmatic man who appears, seemingly out of nowhere, on Manchester s snowy streets. Despite being lost himself, he has the compulsion and ability to find the lost, uncovering truths that will eventually transform the life of Goose and those affected by his decision. But is Anthony s ability to heal real, or just an illusion? Lost Christmas is a magical story about self-sacrifice and destiny, brimming with emotion and humour, this beautifully modern fairytale has all the ingredients of a classic Christmas film. Starring BAFTA, Olivier and two-time Emmy award-winner, Eddie Izzard as Anthony, along with Jason Flemyng (Stardust, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, X-Men: First Class) and written and directed by EMMY, BAFTA and Berlin Bear award-winner John Hay, between them they have created a truly magical and classic Christmas film.

I haven't read the book so cannot compare it to that but having watched it last year at Christmas time, I can tell you, I think it is absolutely brilliant and one of the best dramas I have ever watched.
This is one for the whole family, though some younger children may not understand parts of it, my then 7 and 9 year olds loved it and have re-watched it several times.
I won't say alot about the story as I could easily spoil it for those who haven't already seen it, but it's kind of like a jigsaw that slowly pieces together and it's not until right at the end when we see the whole picture. This is something a little different to enjoy at Christmas, I can't wait to finally own this on Dvd.

Ok, so I love christmas films, and own 200 christmas films on dvd, so whenever a new film is out, I watch it, but having see so many festive films, I rarely get "excited", just pleased.....until i watched this film last year, it's an amazing film, all of the cast are excellent, and the storyline is superb. I pre-ordered this well in advance and having watched it again this afternoon, it is just as brilliant as I remember. So if you like your films to have a brilliant, deep storyline with well-written and formed characters and top-notch acting, this is the film for you, excellent!

I don't usually write reviews but for this film I really need to make an exception. Firstly, I am just ecstatic that this has been released on DVD. Shown last Christmas on BBC1, this film tells the story of Goose who believes he is responsible for his parent's car accident one year before the story's start. Now a streetwise kid, delving into crime, he is devastated when his dog, Mutt, goes missing. But a chance meeting with a mysterious stranger may not only be just the hope he needs in finding Mutt, but a chance to set things right. Hopefully I haven't given too much away there, but this is truly a wonderful film. Both Eddie Izzard and Jason Flemyng shine in this story, and Larry Mills gives a great performance as Goose. I pray that this becomes a Christmas classic because it honestly deserves the attention of every household this winter. I can't wait to buy a copy of the DVD now and watch it again and again!

After watching this wonderful programme I hoped it would some day be on Dvd and it was.
I don't normally like Eddie Izzard as a comedian but as a actor he is great.
What a lovely story this is ,made me cry and makes you think about things you don't want to think about.

This is a real treat,a little gem.I saw this last Christmas and really enjoyed it,I am sure it will become one of the family films in our house we have to watch every Christmas.(I think it would be difficult for younger children to keep up with the plot.)

There is not much I can add to existing positive reviews about Lost Christmas. The film is a wonderful BBC adaptation of the novel by the same name written by David Logan. It stars Eddie Izzard as the mysterious stranger who suddenly appears on a snowy Christmas Eve in Manchester entering the life of ‘Goose’ a boy who since ten years old has lived with a regret relating to a decision he made on a previous Christmas Eve.

Lost Christmas has a magical quality but is set very firmly in the real-life world in which we live. It touches on coping with the loss of a child, family break up and living with people who have dementia. It approaches these with a blunt realism and achieves the perfect balance between not softening the blow too much for the younger audience whilst never forgetting that it is a family drama.

There are a couple of interconnecting stories running throughout the film that are seamlessly and cleverly interwoven with the main one which focuses on the unfolding relationship between the mysterious stranger and Goose and their ultimate destiny. Izzard pulls off a brilliant performance in a challenging role having to achieve the right emotional equilibrium without appearing to be cold and wooden at one and ‘hamming it up’ at the other. Look out also for Geoffrey Palmer who makes an appearance as Doctor Clarence.

Overall, Lost Christmas is a superb and refreshingly different festive family drama. Despite the magical story line it has a gritty undercurrent that ultimately focuses on relationship, the decisions we make in life and how these can influence the outcome.

One thing I must flag up; at the end of the film the original BBC television version featured the Paul McCartney song; ‘Wonderful Christmastime’ performed by Tom McRae.

Read about this quite some time ago... Not sure where now, as I'm in the US, and this (to this date anyway) is strictly a UK release, but waited with great anticipation for the last year to see it. As it made no real move towards the US, I looked for it on Amazon UK. Found it! Went ahead and bought it via Amazon, got it, and the husband and I promptly sat down right before Christmas and watched it. It was wonderful! A lovely little film, full of life, and heart, and tears, and joy. Highly recommended...
