Review
Hollywood will be lucky if it can pull off a caper flick that's half as entertaining as THE LOSERS -- Ain't It Cool News
This is MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE through the eyes of Quentin Tarantino -- The Fourth Rail

The Losers: Book One
and
The Losers (Book Two)
I suspect that this sequence
The Losers (Vol. 1) : Ante Up
The Losers (Vol. 2): Double Down
The Losers (Vol. 3): Trifecta
The Losers (Vol. 4): Close Quarters
The Losers (Vol. 5): Endgame
will simply be allowed to go out of print. It covers the same material in five volumes.
Book 1 parallels the film, though there are differences in the plot.
If you want to mix and match, volume 1 and 2 = Book 1, volumes 3 to 5 = Book 2.
Smart punchy, with plenty of humour and attitude, this is one of the best and most accessible of recent comic books. If you enjoy action films that are absurd but fun, then give these a spin. Probably unsuitable for children on account of violence.
The politics is as blatant as ever. You could easily see this as a Garth Ennis or more likely Micah Ian Wright work. The prescient quotes at the end of each volume show you this is more than just a brainless action-fest and there is a message you need to take note of.
The art is good but the garish blocks of digital colour don't do it any favours. The thick lines and low detail do add a certain cartoonish charm that complement the over-the-top action but much of the good ideas are painted over.
A really enjoyable work that appeals on many levels and brings its own style. Thumbs Up!
