An epic film score receives epic treatment with The Lord of The Rings: The Fellowship of The Ring The Complete Recordings. Released for the first time on CD, the complete score for the first film in the Lord of The Rings trilogy contains more than 180 minutes of music on three CDs plus a DVD-Audio disc of the entire score in Surround Sound. Breathtaking and majestic, the 2001 Oscar-and-Grammy- winning score composed by Howard Shore also includes Enyas Oscar-nominated "May it Be". For fans of any The Lord of The Rings films The Fellowship of The Ring The Complete Recordings is an essential experience.
The set also includes exclusive new artwork, luxury packaging and extensive liner notes taken from The Music of The Lord of The Rings Films, to be published in 2006.
Whats New? Songs such as "May it Be" with all new selections of tracks that reflect the score, rather than the edited original soundtrack album.

I can't wait for the next two.
I totally understand why some people are annoyed about having to fork out for another LOTR related release - and this CD Box Set isn't cheap! I too hope that they aren't going down the all-too-familiar churn-it-out road that some other franchises have gone down. The only consolation is that LOTR releases seem to be of outstanding quality and when they say you get extras they do deliver e.g. just look at the mind-blowing extras on the Special Edition DVDs!
I have to conclude with my opinion that this stunningly superb piece of musical genius is worth buying if you love LOTR music!
This is essentially the complete soundtrack to the extended version of the film, whereas the soundtrack originally released contained snippets from the theatrical edition. For anyone who hasn't seen the extended versions of the films - GO WATCH THEM, they're far superior to the theatrical versions. And this follows in the soundtracks - this extended version is far superior to the original soundtrack.
What particularly makes the set for me is the DVD - the complete score for the extended version, in 5.1 surround sound! It's like being in the room with the orchestra!
Some people might ask, 'why don't you just watch the film, it's got the same music! What's the point?' If you're one of these people, don't buy this, because you just don't get it. The entire point of buying this is to appreciate Howard Shore's spectacular score as a work of art in itself, rather than as part of the greater whole of the FOTR movie.
The only reason I don't give this five stars is because of the cover - it's packaged in a reinforced cardboard, which doesn't really look like its going to stand the test of time. A pity, because the collection is superb.
The new CD thankfully allows us to put away the edited versions of the soundtrack with which we have had to be content for the last 4 years. Now in grand operatic style we have the full musical accompaniment to the world of Middle Earth. It is akin to dumping a greatest hits selection in favour of the full work- and does it make a difference!
Wagnerian in scope, yet attentive in its detail, it is a fourth dimension to Peter Jackson's outstanding interpretation of JRR Tolkien's epic of Western literature. One of the great works of contemporary musical composition, it will be listened to for as long as Tolkien is read.
The presentation box is very smart and elegant(but you cannot put the box in your CD/DVD player but it looks good on the shelf!!!)
The CDs/DVD are obviously brilliant. These are the recordings from the score of the extended versions of the film from start to finish. They have not been edited in any way (unlike the original soundtracks which are sound vignettes of the films.)
The great bonus of this box set is the booklet written by Doug Adams. It explains the musical themes of the film using musical notation and relevant musical language. This is good for us budding film composers. This is worth the price alone for me!!!
Buy this, it's good!!!!!
P.S. There are at least three different versions of the LOTR film score i.e the original soundtracks, the complete recordings and the symphony of the LOTR. All worth their weight in gold!!!!

This is the ultimate soundtrack of the movie. You won't be disappointed by buying this.
The only shame is that the DVD-Audio is only 48kHz 24bit, I would like 96kHz 24bit.
