This book is set in Helena, Montana. Lucy Mathews runs and owns her antiques shop, Dusty Deals. Visiting an auction to buy some goods, there is also a Medicine Man outfit up for sale, which causes a furious bidding battle. The eventual buyer for this is a stranger to town, James Crandell, he isn't the only stranger in town though who would like to get the set.

When Crandell turns up stabbed to death with his own knife in the alleyway to her shop the next day, Lucy is on the case. Getting her old job back reporting on the local paper, as well as running her shop, will Lucy be able to solve the murder, or will the Peter Blake, the police be able to solve it on his own?

With some twists and turns, and a bit of romance, this is well enough written, but ultimately you shouldn't find the mystery element too hard to solve. This is an enjoyable read that should do for holidays or lazing around at home.

The Deere family is the most eminent one in the small town of Helena, Montana. When items from their estate come up for auction, there are strangers from out of state. The bidding gets hot on some seemilngly fairly valueless items, including a dried weasel, and they are bought by Jack Crandell, one of the strangers. When his body is found stabbed to death outside the Dusty Deals antique shop, its owner Lucy, her best friend Rhonda and Lucy's malamute dog Kiska, are drawn into the mystery. There are a couple of very attractive men iinvolved, including a rather sexy police officer, so it may be that Lucy's love life is on the up, even if everything else is rather difficult.
This is a skilfully written cosy mystery. Rae Davies has a light touch, a sense of humour and a slick writing style. It is an American book, which usually puts me off, but this one is pretty accessible to the UK reader. Ms Davies is a teacher of novel writing in her native country, as well as a prolific author. I enjoyed the description of life in rural Montana, which seemed casual and down-to-earth. The author writes well about the relationships between animals and their owners and Kiska the malamute dog came vividly to life. The story is fairly trivial, but this is enjoyable light reading when one feels like escaping everyday life for a while.

I have to say that I thought I'd got a dud with this. On reading it though, I found that it was easy to read but hard to put down. That is close to an ideal combination you can get.

I liked the story but will not spoil it for you.

I absolutely loved reading this book and am looking forward to more Dusty Deals mysteries. I thought that the book was well-written with a good mix of mystery, romance and fun. The characters were really well drawn and realistic, including Kiska and Nostradamus, the dog and the cat! Although I have never been to Helena I had a good picture in my mind's eye of the town and its various locations.

I have to say that this is one of the best free books I've had for my Kindle and I will certainly be happy to pay for more. It's also a book that I would be happy to give my 11-year old niece to read which was another big point in its favour.

As deals go this was far from dusty. A mystery with a little more style and care than most. It was almost 'wholesome' and that makes a pleasant change. You could do far, far worse than adding this book to your collection. Well written and maintained my interest throughout.

This free book was ok, the storyline was ok but there was something about it that didn't hold my attention and I can't put my finger on what it was, I found myself thinking of things I had to do when reading it and finding out I hadn't took anything in of the book for a couple of pages but found I hadn't missed anything by doing this.
Maybe it was a bit slow paced but it was a good ending x

The book was readable but it didn't blow me away. I wasn't really bothered to find out who killed the stranger outside her shop or why. Maybe if the dead body was that of someone we had gotten to know it would of been better?? im not sure, it just left me saying "oh well, on to the next book".

Nothing offensive about this, very easy read and funny in parts. Slightly odd romantic ending..... nothing really leading up to it and all a bit too sudden so found it slightly jarring. Other than that found it was easy to kill a couple of hours reading it.
