HASH(0x998c9c6c) out of 5 stars Longing for Paradise 10 April 2007
By Kenneth Jackson - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
Our western societies are driven by the passion to build our own paradise. We want to be comfortable but, above all, "happy" which may be read as "free from conflict". Jacobi looks at the story of creation, the story of the Garden of Eden in the Bible and shows the ways in which this story has influenced behaviours down through the ages. Whether or not behaviours of readers change from reading this book, it will at least give them an understanding of the dominant myth which still drives every aspect of life in the western world.

HASH(0x997a3bc4) out of 5 stars For any engaged in intermediate to advanced psychology studies. 5 Nov. 2006
By Midwest Book Review - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Written by Mario Jacoby, a senior Jungian analyst based in Zurich, Longing For Paradise: Psychological Perspectives on an Archetype is a psychological treatise concerning the concept of Paradise. From the role that the idea of Paradise plays in the psychological qualities of the mother-infant bond and child development, to a close analysis of the Biblical tale of Paradise and the Fall, to links between the Jungian individuation process and the legends and myths of Paradise espoused by various cultures, Longing for Paradise deeply scrutinizes the complex interplay of human belief and thought processes. Numerous case studies offer concrete examples of the abstract mental concepts and complexes discussed in this scholarly text for any engaged in intermediate to advanced psychology studies.
