Review

"I felt The Longest Whale Song with its honest characters and dialogue, its unique coverage of the trauma Ella and her family experience, and its ability to unite readers with Ella's coping process is a tender, moving story in the classic Wilson mould." (Alison Nolan Inis (Ireland))

"...this story will delight... As always, the characters are beautifully portrayed and you are really drawn ino their lives, especially that of Ellie." (www.parentsintouch.co.uk)

"No one is better than Jacqueline Wilson at entering into the daily ups and downs of childhood, while being sympathetic but not sentimental." (Juliet Townsend Spectator)

"Jacquelin Wilson is a fantastic author whose books strongly inspire me. Many children will be able to relate to this book, so I truly recommend it to anyone from eight to 12-years-old. I could not put it down, it was a very enjoyable book to read. I really hope you like this book as much as I did." (Molly Leckerman Newham Recorder)

"Wilson maybe a little mawkish a times, but her grip on what little girls are made of is a sure thing." (The Independant on Sunday)

This story is about a young girl called Ella whose mum is in a coma after having her baby. She then has to go home with her stepdad (who she dosn't like very much).
She misses alot of school and so she starts a whale project, which she gets very interesting. She found out that one whale was recorded for 22 hours singing. So when she plays it to her mum will it get through to her just like the whales...
This is a great book and when I got it for xmas I was overjoyed! I luv Jakie! This book made me feel really sorry for Ella (and her poor Dad). If your're not sure defo buy this book! It may be expensive but it's worth it I promise. :-)

when i first started reading this book i wasn't to sure about it but when i got into it i couldn't put it down. It didn't take me long to read this book as i kept wanting to know what would happen next. This book is about a little girl called ella who lives with her mum and her stepdad(who she didnt like at first.)when her mum was giving birth something went wrong so the doctors had to put her in a coma which meant ella had to stay at home with jack her stepdad alone. This is torture for ella but after a while she relises hes not that bad and they both work together to look after the little baby. This book shows how much affectionate ella is about her mum. I would recommend this book to anyone it is AMAZING!!!! and it is so hard to describe it in one word.

(The following review is by my 11-year-old daughter)
This book is the bestest book I've ever read in my whole life! When I saw this book I wasn't sure if I would like it or not because most Jacqueline Wilson books are about parents splitting up and not everyone likes that sort of thing, so I flicked through this book and read a page at random. I started thinking this book was really good so I read it and it was...well there isn't any word brilliant to describe it! but if you read this book make sure you have a pack of tissues close by because I guarantee this book will attract tears! This book really shows the importance of love, friendship and most important family!

I read Jacqueline Wilson growing up and even now I'm an adult I get so much out of her books. Or so I thought. I am noticing a pattern - the newer books are not anywhere near as good as the older ones. And that's not my age talking, because I have reread almost all of the old ones as an adult and I still believe this. This story was interesting in concept but poorly structured - I wondered at times who we were meant to be focusing on. Ella bonding with Jack? Ella wanting mum to wake up? Ella and Jack's challenges with the new baby? Ella and her friends at school? Of the friends, by the way, none of it really 'went anywhere' as there were a lot of characters introduced who I didn't feel were 'followed up'. The ending was also so sudden it seemed completely contrived and I was literally like ????? that it had just finished so abruptly. I'd much rather have had an ambiguous ending. I don't know, it just left me unfulfilled. Disappointing as I love JW.

Another Jacqueline Wilson Book, which will delight any child. Filled with the usual collection of true to life facts turned into a fictional tale which wasn't put down by my Daughter. In her words is it so "Awesome", do not just buy this book because of the author, who by the way IS brilliant, but because it is a great adventure that unfolds in the child's mind as they read through the book and makes them think about real life issues too.

The Longest Whale Song

I got this book for a Christmas present. When I started to read it I could not stop. It is a very sad story and for that reason I think this book is suitable for 9 and over.
