Two of Robin's finest albums on a twofer. The classic sound and feel of Long Misty Days is everything you would expect from a true guitar master. The Don Davis produced In City Dreams is a turning point in Robin's carreer with a funkier feel than his previous work, however retaining the classic line up of Bill Lordan on drums and the great Jimmy Dewar on Vocals is guaranteed to please Trower fans old and new.

Long Misty Days is a great Trower album, The title track is atmospheric, with great James Dewar vocals and melody. Caledonia is steaming, and probably my favourite. Sailing I think its great, shame they didn't find it first. All in all there is a subtle shift towards the vocals and more melodic material, but still plenty of Trower blues funk a la For Earth Below like Messing the Blues. I haven't listen to this album for years, but can't stop playing now.
In City Dreams - I am not sure ?- It's an even stronger push towards melody and vocals, moving towards RnB and soul, with Trower's guitar in a more supporting role. The production has that over clean early made for CD digital sound, and possibly synthesised guitar. I see this as an experimental album at the time. Possibly they should have gone the whole hog on some tracks and added harmonies, and brass. That may have alienated the diehards, but given it some magic that to my mind is lacking.

For me, these two albums compliment the magnificent Bridge of Sighs. From the funky Messin' the Blues to the dreamlike Long Misty Days and culminating in the late night special In City Dreams. Great stuff.

Had In City Dreams on vinyl long since lost and forgotten, saw Trower playin' the blues on some channel and got one of his more recent offerings ( Another Days Blues) but while trolling came across this deal and bought this also! Not too much to say others haven't already! theres a strong possibility it's going to be worn out so I may have to invest in a couple of the other double album deals going! p.s. Maybe it's me getting all nostalgic, but does anybody else find themselves smiling when he's on t.v.?
