She is such a wonderful writer and storyteller. This one is a very dark subject but in her hands it becomes a page turner.
I didn’t know much about the cases or people who are the subject of this book but I now feel I know them very well.
I just hope for more from Denise soon - I couldn’t admire her more.
There is an awful lot that puzzles me about the Manuel murders and the fact that the files ,years later, are still secret is also strange. Maybe the answers lie toitally in the strangeness of Peter Manuel's mind. I don't agree with the author's theory which she hints at to explain the Watt murders although again there does seem to be something odd about the husband's attitude and reaction to the murders.
While Glasgow has always had a relatively large criminal element that use almost unimaginable casual violence in the pursuit of criminal profit , an equally large number of Glasgow criminals seemed to carry out brutal, animalistic violence for not much more than pleasure , and not to achieve financial gain.Peter Manuel's crimes appear to have had little to do with financial gain, often not much of a sexual element , and seemed to have been committed for pleasure following which he seemed to go well out of his way to making sure he was detected and found guilty.
