This edition has lost approximately 100 pages in comparison to the last 2013 edition and now is verging on wafer thin. These are complex and challenging destinations. More material on the following as a bare minimum: the distinctiveness of Zambia as a safari destination, more on Zambia's rich traditional festivals, detailed write up of Chongoni rock art galleries, Malawi's second UNESCO world heritage site (not mentioning it at all is negligent), walking tours of Ilha Mozambique and Ibo Island. The Bradt Guides to the same destinations offer so much more.
Mozambique runs along the Indian Ocean coast between Tanzania and South Africa, opposite Madagascar; with Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Swaziland on its western borders.
The southern half of landlocked Malawi is embedded in Mozambique, with Tanzania to its north-east and Zambia to its north west.
Zambia, also landlocked, has the Democratic Republic of Congo on its northern border, Tanzania, Malawi and Mozambique running down its eastern border, Zimbabwe on its southern border, Namibia on its south-west and Angola on its western border. This is a busy map.
This is a well-designed and presented guide, with useful maps. This is not a glossy guide with lots of colour pictures, but it is a well-designed and laid out guide, with colour used sparingly. It is intended to be a helpful guide to things to see and do, and not just a list of things to see and do.
It is broken down into four major sections:
