It does what it says. A typical Lonely Planet phrasebook with the essential expressions recorded on the CD. Phrases are given in simplified characters and pinyin. Clear reference for the recorded items so that they are easy to find on the CD. A short menu and glossary attached. The only minor drawback is that with the exception of just a few sentences the recordings are male voice only (one person). I wish there were a few people recorded so that you can get used to different voices or pronuciations.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cellphone translators maybe more useful. 18 Dec. 2014

The book is somewhat outdated. They talking about film for slides? The Chinese speaker talks very fast, difficult to understand at times. The voice is not very pleasant. They could have mixed voices using female voice at times. The book is not for an occasional Chinese speaker, it would require advanced knowledge to get some use of it. Cellphone translators maybe more useful.
