Very good guide, as all the lonely planet I bought so far. The suggestions are always close to my expectation. Even though the NYC is just a bit more than a summary (in case you should buy the lonely planet city guide), it was still ages better than another specific and renowned NYC guide that I bought.

HASH(0x94fccd8c) out of 5 stars NJ and PA shouldn't be thought of as thoroughfares! 21 Feb. 2011
By Thomas Seymour - Published on Amazon.com

At first I thought there was no such complete travel book covering the states of NY, NJ and PA entirely all in one book, but now there is! A lot of people think of NJ and PA as thoroughfares between New York City and Washington, D.C., but that's probably because that's where I-95 goes through.

One word to describe this book: Complete. I have been looking for years for a book that covers not just the city of New York City, but all three mid-atlantic states! This book tells you virtually everything you need to know, things to do, places to stay, advice, transportation, what to expect, and more! This book also adds a lot of emphasis on the New Jersey Shore (or if you like to say it like the locals do, "Jersey Shore" works too.)

There's one important point to note when you buy this book: This book is not only for people who want to get away from New York City. Sometimes families come in from Southeastern PA and go to NJ for some time at the beach. Sometimes Southeastern Pennsylvania residents want some time at Hersheypark.

In conclusion, if you desire to take a vacation around the states of NY, NJ, and/or PA and you want a complete guidebook, this is definitely a book to consider!
HASH(0x953e2b70) out of 5 stars You've to be kidding! 25 Aug. 2015

THIS "BOOK" WAS WRITTEN BY BUNCH OF TOTALLY CLUELESS AUSTRALIAN KIDS AND, IT ADDITION TO NOT BEING ANYWHERE NEAR AS COMPREHENSIVE AS I EXPECTED, THE LISTS OF ACCOMODATIONS AND RESTAURANTS IS CRIMINALLY INCOMPLETE! THE ROUGH GUIDE TO THE USA HAS MORE INFORMATION ON, NY, NJ, AND PA IN THE RELEVANT SECTIONS. THERE ARE INFINITELY BETTER GUIDES TO NYC AND PHILLY BUT I BOUGHT THIS GUIDE FOR UPSTATE NY, THE JERSEY SHORE, AND THE HAMPTONS. I COULD HAVE PUT TOGETHER A BETTER GUIDE THAN THIS WITH THE PROPER TIME AND FUNDING! WHAT A WASTE OE MONEY!

I only used this guide to tour Philadelphia. It is up to the usual Lonely Planet standards. Very useful, with a heap of info, and no fluff.

I really wanted info about New Jersey but this was all I could find. This guide was too general for my use.

This book covers just the area I plan to visit, with lots of detail and perspectives. It will be in my suitcase when I fly east.
