However this guide was a huge disappointment. Ok the print font was bigger, but that of course meant there was less in the guide overall. We were travelling using public transport and needed the formerly excellent information on accommodation and eating out in differing price ranges. It had very little to say about sites of interest. For example the sections on the duomo in both Milan and Como were very poor.
This guide just doesn't provide enough resources for an independent traveller. We got the impression that if were touring using a car and just wanted scant information on everything, then the guide would just suffice. We ended up preferring A Rough Guide which was 4 years out of date!
It has very generalised information about the lakes but very little specific information about places. It doesn't give good accommodation reviews and I don't like the fact the accommodation is in the back, also very few ideas for people on a budget.
Not enough pictures in the book, although the maps are good.
I would definitely shop around for a better alternative.
The guide is comprehensive and extremely helpful. I found it very accurate.
Moreover I don't understand other reviewer complaining about quantity of pictures in the book.
I simply disagree with that opinion.
The guide can be recommended to anybody.
