Fantastically helpful, planning our wedding and honeymoon has been very easy thanks to this book. Loads of info including prices and if there are toilets available. Very happy with this book. Belize: Country Guide (Lonely Planet Country Guides)

I have been a regular user of Lonely Planets since my first world trip in 95..
I hope to use this guide to get me to Belize and try out the local delights! But primarily for snorkelling in those amazing waters!

2.0 out of 5 stars Kindle edition inferior; notes on cultural/etiquette section (i.e. lack thereof) 13 Nov. 2012
By JT - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
The Kindle edition seems quite inferior to the print book. I was mistakenly under the impression that both editions contained the same material -- won't be making that error again.

In addition, the formatting of the kindle edition looks rather unprofessional, imo.

Finally, but most important -- I'm very disappointed in Lonely Planet's recent trend of omitting the Cultural/Etiquette sections of their books (both kindle and print). It seems in the most recent editions (the ones that use the cover as the table of contents, ahem) that they are further cutting costs by catering solely to the "ugly American" audiences who are uninterested in being respectful to local cultures.

It's a pity that now even if one wants to interact with local people "off the tourist track", i.e. beyond objects of photography, there is simply no information in these books of how to do so in a culturally respectful manner.

I was a devout Lonely Planet customer but am slowly switching to the Moon series guides as this LP trend takes hold.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Guide to Belize 15 Mar. 2013
By Cascadia30 - Published on Amazon.com

This guide served me well on a 10 day trip to Belize earlier this month. While some of the pricing information is already out of date (add 10-15% to their estimates) the hotel and restaurant reviews were spot on. Happy travels!

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing Guide Book 25 April 2013
By BTB - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
We bought this book on Belize after having a wonderful experience in Costa Rica using the Lonely Planet Costa Rica guide, which was right on the money in every category - it truly reflected waht it was actually like there. This Belize guide seems more of a catalog of hotels, dive shops, ruin tours, rather than the expected in depth description of what its actually LIKE there, what the reader will Experience there.

So for us, its a disappointment. Its almost as if the authors haven't actually experienced the places. So now we are going shopping for another guide book, and we will be a bit more circumspect in our rush to Lonely Planet tour books from now on.

But hey, if you are planning a trip to Costa Rica, the Lonely Planet guide for that country is perfect.

5.0 out of 5 stars lonely planet is always the best 12 Feb. 2013

This guide book is fantastic. Year after year, I find that the lonely planet guides are far better than any other guide books. However, if doing a lot of walking or driving, definitely bring a 'real' map.
4.0 out of 5 stars Scared me 7 Jan. 2014

I like to go to cities and towns in a foreign country and not to beaches and resorts. The beaches and islands reviews sound very nice but the crime described in the cities and towns make me have second thoughts of going. So the book did serve its purpose.
