Book Description

The second collection of original verse by the maverick multimillionaire publisher Felix Dennis.

About the Author

Publisher and poet Felix Dennis was one of Britain's most colourful maverick millionaires. Imprisoned in 1971 as co-editor of OZ magazine and acquitted on appeal, he founded his own magazine publishing company in 1973 and made millions with the sale of Personal Computer World and MacUser in the mid-eighties. Today, Dennis Publishing remains a privately owned company with headquarters in London and New York City. Titles include The Week, Auto Express, Maxim, Men's Fitness and Computer Shopper. Following a life-threatening illness, his first collection of poetry, A Glass Half Full was published by Hutchinson and the second, Lone Wolf, in 2004. Eight more collections followed, accompanied by sell-out reading tours on both sides of the Atlantic. The Felix Dennis Prize for Best First Collection is awarded yearly, as part of the Forward Prizes for Poetry. As a lover of trees, his lifetime ambition was the planting of a large native broadleaf forest in Warwickshire. He had homes in England, the USA, St Vincent and the Grenadines and died of cancer in June 2014 at his home in Warwickshire.

I was enticed along to an evening of felix's poetry by the promise of free wine, but in all honesty would happily pay to see him again and again!
If all poetry was written with the same passion, humour and senses of nostalgia and morality as Felix's then poetry would once again be one of the foremost art forms in this country. This is poetry for the masses and best of all it is free from the pretentiousness that usually accompanies the medium, and best of all...it actually rhymes!!

I am normally rather turned off by poetry, but these are a wondeful a refreshing bunch of poems that I have read more than once and enjoyed. There are some hysterically funny poems and some very sad ones. Altogether very entertaining.

Felix Dennis poetry is special - accessible, fun, engaging, sometimes poignant, always a great read (or listen).

This version comes with a CD of Felix reading how work, and his voice adds real depth and vitality to these great poems.

Not into poetry reading? Neither was I until I went to one! But I am converted to Felix at least.

Felix Dennis writes real poetry that rhymes, scans and in some cases sings to the reader. It is thoughtful, funny, provocative and thoroughly entertaining. This book is the perfect introduction to poetry and should be an example to every aspiring poet. To appreciate it fully, read each poem as if you were reading it aloud to ourself.

The book cover was filthy. It had dried food and general sticky unpleasant grubbiness on the cover. The wipes used to clean were black with filth. I cannot read the book now as its so disgusting. Btw there were annotations.
