Product Description

Product Description

London s Burning was one of LWT s most popular and enduring series. Featuring the firefighters of Blackwall Station s Blue Watch, the dramatic and sometimes tragic situations encountered by the team were often based on real-life events, and always counterpointed by the more private stories of the firefighters. It is this combination of famously realistic action scenes and personal issues that made London s Burning a huge ratings hit, with its quirky and very human characters finding great affection among viewers throughout its 14-year span. For the first time, this set collects every episode of Series Eight to Fourteen of the award-winning and memorable drama, originally screened between 1995 and 2001.

I had read somewhere on the Internet that "After 9/11, the producers thought they could cash in on the hero status of firemen." I disagree entirely and simply because there is never anything glamorous about an emergency service worker in whatever capacity they are employed. The characters in this long running series were professionally chosen and more than well suited to their individual roles. Anything high octane about the first series certainly came down to slower, intimately engaging, naturally anticipated expectations as series 8-14 evolved with the times and the people. In fact, this second fire fighting saga invites the audience to applaud the sincerity of even imagined heroism; the cast inevitably want to satisfy their fans of their holistic acting capabilities as well as entertain the notion of ultimate deity - we are all more Greek than Roman even as new-informed world modern citizens. Why criticize the very real fact that we all seek out supreme heroism when it is intrinsically attached to our human instinct to succeed and surpass challenges, whether they be real or not?. I am wholly satisfied with this conclusive equally as gripping series and a worthwhile investment always.

Fantastic scripts, great characters, inspired acting, super humor, camaraderie, and a hark back to simpler, steadier non techno mad world !

I don't know anything about the Fire service, but this is a fascinating insight into their very stressful and very dangerous occupation.

87 hours of viewing on 28 dvds ................ well worth the money !

I loved this series so much back in the 80s and 90s... and so I couldn't wait to watch this over... and yes... it's just as good as I remember... it doesn't seem dated, as it is a portrayal of the Fire Brigade through that era ... I just love the characters and the camaraderie between them... the personal storylines... the excitement of the shouts!! Fab script writing and production!

Things do change over the Seasons and there is a big change after Series 10... I remember I didn't like it at the time... but now I can see why they did it... as the Fire Brigade must have been going through a lot of changes during that time and so they needed to update things.... the cast also changes quite dramatically and some of the best characters have left the show by Series 11... but the new cast members do settle in again as a team and the story lines are so good that it doesn't spoil viewing... and there are some of the cast that do stay through until the end!!

I have loved watching this again and it was worth every penny!!

I feel reading other previews many feel the same as me about this once great series, I remember watching the vary first movie before the series as George wasn't in the first movie but in series 1-14 and the finishing movie, we know when a series starts and time moves on the regular casts start to leave like Vaseline was the first, Baliff, John Halem and Sicknote etc, then there was the older casts we got used to, Billy, Jack and Recall etc. But these characters and others are the ones that made it, from series one to series thirteen this is what made this series so strong, great story line and characters and the story kept within the fire services, but the writers changed this in series 14 apart from George and the later character Geoff they had all disappeared the only other one was Sally, Series fourteen was a mixture of the fire service and gangsters and no longer a series of the fire service, they should of called it God Fire not London's Burning, however it lost the audience it once had and came to an end after this series and rightly so. However it went on for fourteen series capturing the audience interests and nothing can be taken from that when a regular series lasts maybe 4 - 5 series, the only others' 50 minute long series to capture the audience interests is Heartbeat and Minder and Minder lost it after Dennis Waterman left, the other great series that only went on to 4-5 Series was Soldier, Soldier, Sweeny, The Professionals and Boom etc so London's Burning did brilliant and to be honest when all the great casts new and old left it was very hard to replace them. But I feel the death of the series was series fourteen where not only did the cast change but the script as it lost my interest as it became a blend of The God Father and London's Burning but there is one thing for sure I am glad to have all Fourteen series and movies on DVD.

Having got Series 1-7, I managed to obtain Series 8-14. I was not disappointed. You got the usual tragedies and volatile situations plus the appointment of a new Chief Officer. Sean Blowers (John Hollins) comes to fruition in this series. We also meet one of the recruits Colin, who is a mad keen Millwall fan(some of the scenes are actually filmed at The Den, before Millwall moved to the New Den). And who can forget Geoffrey "Poison" Pearce who continually caused trouble, and rubbed his colleagues up the wrong way!

This really was an excellent series. Unfortunately-no subtitles!

I have been desperate for season eight onwards for quite a few weeks now since I finished the Series 1-7 box set. This is a must for any London's Burning fan. I have only made it up to episode 4 of series 8 so far, but I am impressed. Yes, it became more of a soap nearer the end so I hear and of what I remember from seeing repeats, but it is still an amazing programme. Definitely worth buying for any true fan.
