The stories in this collection are, each one, based on a different word that won the National Spelling Bee. The result of this intriguing concept is a selection of diverse, peculiar and original tales, that revel in language and delight in the strange and absurd. I enjoyed almost every story in this book, and will go back to it again and again. Of particular note, for me, were Hal Duncan's Chiaroscurist and Daniel Abraham's Lord Iron and the Cambist - both wonderful tightly knit stories, told in very different ways.

A good read. Some really interesting words in there. I bought this for my husband who loves words so consequently loved this book.
