However, getting it in and out is never a smooth experience. Its a bit awkward, and usually you need to use two hands and be careful. My only other annoyance is that the dock doesn't tilt all the way up to 90°. I don't think many docks do this however, but this is what you need for a good Facetime/Skype angle when you are sat at a desk.
All together, really great at this price level though. Strongly recommend.
The stand itself is sturdy, it is a little fiddly getting the docking in and you have to slide it into the grips whilst the dock is at the bottom, whilst easy on most docking stations, this does take a little bit to get used too.It does grip the ipad 2 very well and you don't feel like it's going to slip out as soon as you move it
The different angles are good, and the stand does not feel like it is going to tip up, the winner for me however was the sound, i was expecting it to be slightly louder but it is actually very loud, and is great for watching films as this does enhance the sound quite a lot and music sounds good and clear too and not tinny like some plug in devices.
The only downsides and why its rated 4 stars instead of 5 is the fact that it's a plug in device which limits where you can put it, you can use the stand unplugged, but don't get the extra sound only what comes through the ipad,i guess battery operated like a mobile phone uses may have been a good idea, also maybe this is something only we have found, that when we plug in the ipad it starts randomly playing music and we have not found a way to stop this (anyone with any knowledge how would be grateful to know), however if you are watching something else, this does cut the music without having to go into your ipad and manually stopping the music which is good.
All in All a great device for the money, and a good product which can be used plugged in and on its own as a stand alone holder
It is compatible with both i pad 1 and 2. When you power off the stand the i pad goes to sleep (which is a nice touch) and volume level is also displayed on the ipad also.
If I was being super picky there are only two minor draw backs. 1) the stands power chord is a little too short. 2) The cradle that holds the i pad can be a little fiddly to dock. But once connected is very stable and snug.
all in all I would give it an 8.5 out of 10.
The couple of minor drawbacks are, when you dock the iPad on it, and then turn on the stand itself, the iPad starts automatically playing music? Maybe this is a bug with the iPad rather than the stand so I'll let that one slip. The other thing is that the viewing angle isn't ideal. My beside locker is at the same height as my bed (maybe slightly higher) so given that the stand raises the iPad up and tilts it back slightly it's not a great viewing angle. If the stand was able to be propped up so that the arm was perpendicular to the base, it would be ideal but it's a couple of degrees off perpendicular when it's extenden fully. I've got it propped up on the edge of a book, which works, but I would prefer not to have to do it!
Overall though, I like it!
Update - The stand fell from the locker (about 1 meter) and one of the arms that holds the iPad in place broke clean off.
