Similar spec to the Logitech Pro 4000 i.e. built in microphone and 1.3 Mega pixel CCD lens (not your inferior CMOS).
But cheaper (how does that work?) normally 49.99 pounds, but buy it from Amazon and cheaper again and free postage.
Easy to set up (Win XP SP2) install s/w first then plug in hardware.
The microphone (with echo cancelation - right sound technology) works great, so no more need for the headset and external microphone. Does however come with external headset, but have had no need to use it (perhaps only in you want a private conversation)
Excellent in low light (Right light Technology) and it has the ability to track your face/head and zoom in - if selected.
Then it has the advantage of syncing your face, lips, eyes to animation characters, known as avatars, great fun for the kids (and adults). One slight warning - it can not use this function to calibrate in poor / bad lighting conditions. Would ony work if the room was naturally lighted i.e. daylight.
Also nice mount to work either on flat surface or bend round LCD flat panel screen
Overall, excellent clear pictures and good microphone response without the annoying echo problem associated when using speakers.
Works with Skype (using external video plugin - spontania [...] and its free)
    Overall excellent.

Superb webcam from Logitech again. Its definetly worth spending £30-£40 on an item like this.
Installation was faultless on Windows XP SP2. Make sure you install the drivers before plugging in the camera. I didn't bother installing the additional Logitech software, so can't say much about it.
All I can say is that I've tried the QuickCam Pro 5000 with Skype, and it works seamlessly. People who I've communicated with report great clarity of picture, good refresh rates (2Mb ADSL broadband), and superb sound quality. Face tracking works well, although sometimes a little delay (not problematic).
The sound quality alone is worth the price of the camera. I've not had the need to use a headset at all. No echos on either end of the line.
    Hassle-free, superb buy.

I have a Quickcam Pro 4000 at work which works fantastically well, quality of sound and picture is great. So because I'm off travelling for work soon I thought let me get a camera for home so I could keep in touch with my family. I bought the Quickcam Pro 5000 expecting great things. Sure enough the image quality and sound were much improved and my kids enjoyed the gimicky software that comes with it. Great I thought, everything worked fine for a few days then WHAM .... blue screen and automatic restart!! The only way I could get out of it was by unplugging the webcam and shutting down the machine. I have since looked on Logitech's forum and found it is a known problem that they are working on. They say there is a workaround which I tried but it didnt work for me. With regret I have had to return the webcam to Amazon stating it was incompatible with my system. For the record Amazon's returns service is excellent with a full refund after a matter of days.

So come on Logitech sort it out, you have a great product which if people have XP loaded with all the latest updates and service packs will cause problems!

I had intended to buy a cheaper webcam but after reading numerous reviews I decided to buy the Logitech 5000. I have not been disappointed and believe it is worth the extra. Installation was easy and Skype immediately recognised the presence of the webcam. The quality of the picture, in both good and poor light, on Skype and in video emails has been better than I had expected after seeing the webcams of several friends. As others have pointed out, the sound is also excellent. The face tracking feature works though sometimes it seems to zoom in and out for no apparent reason. The atavars are a bonus feature for those who want them but are, I presume, aimed primarily at children.

The camera arrived within a reasonable time. Installation was quick and easy, but it messed up the sound on my PC, so that all sound came through the headphones instead of the speakers. I did nto explicitly select an option to do this, nor could I find one to undo it.

The camera itself worked wonderfully. And I took some excellent pictures. Aside from the sound issue, everything seemed fine. It wanted me to restart my PC to finish installation, so I then did so. After restarting, though .The PC refused to boot up. Just after the windows Xp loading screen, my screen turned black and stayed that way.

I was unable to start the PC , and after several attempts, the safe mode options came up. I chose to rollback to last knwon good configuration, which uninstalled the camera software, and allowed the PC to start as normal.

I contacted logitech's technical support, and in response I got a generic "heres some stuff to try" reply.I followed all the instructions without avail . reinstalling the camera brought the exact same unable to start problem. And I was left with no choice but to uninstall all trace of it.#

I told the tech support guys (typically, indian) who did not respond. I sent a farther email after that, which they also did not respond to.

In the end, I got a few pics which was what I wanted it for, but it almost cost my whole PC. And their tech support was utterly useless. Though the camera itself is a fine product, the software powering it and the tech support team both have serious problems, and as a result, I would not recommend this product to anyone until it's technical issues are resolved.

As an addendum, I managed to get the camera working without the software. ANd it's wonderfully high res, and works fine. I can't adjust many settings for it without the software though, but at least it works, sort of.
