Scroll wheel sadness

You can see everything great about this mouse in a lot of other reviews.
Here's the bad. The scroll wheel is fragile. I've had two of these, the first I had from Amazon and the scroll lock button (which stops the wheel from free wheeling and is uncontrollable) didn't work. Logitech support were great and sent me a replacement. The replacement has lasted about 11 months before the scroll wheel stopped registering on screen, on websites or games. I could ask them for another replacement, but decided to let it go and just use my old Fireglider optical.

OK, I had enough of this mouse:
- loud and bulky scroll wheel, wiggles like hell and is the noisiest on any mouse EVER. Going from this to a cheap chinese £10 mouse is a huge improvement in comfort
- battery last about a week. Are you kidding me? I had £3 mouse from China lasting on AAA batteries for months
- extraordinarily OVER SENSITIVE buttons ALL OVER THE PLACE, that you WILL be clicking accidentally at least 30% of the time
- and last but not least, the dreaded double click issue that everybody knows about. Want to hold that scroll bar for longer or right click scope that sniper rifle? Well, forget it. You gonna have to grab it again and again, because this piece of art releases and registers a second click instead.

The only good thing I can say is it's ok-ish for my bigger hand. That's it.
All in all, I would give this 0 stars if I could. Why? Because they have the audacity to charge over £100 for it and suggest you clean your own contacts to solve the double click issue. WHAT? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I pay £120 to clean contacts?
Do yourself a favor. DO NOT BUY this just for the marketing and design. Get a £30 mouse that fits your hand. That's it.

I brought this as part of a amazon sale and its a mouse i've had my eye on for some time, unfortunately I wasn't going to pay the £70-£80 rrp but when the sale came around I was happy with the price I paid.

I swapped out my Mionix castor mouse for the G502 and there is a noticeable difference in quality. The castor generally feels better in the hand and I was initially disappointed with how the the G502 felt. However, i've continued with the logitec due to just how configurable it is and overall (for the price I paid) I think this is a good mouse.....but the Mionix is better.

I would still argue that £60-£80 for the G502 is way too much money (from a quality perspective) but get a good deal (less than £40 like I did) and its well worth it.

I just wasted money on the worst scroll wheel I have ever used on a mouse

I have been using Logitech mice since my first MX510, almost 20 years ago. When the MX518 came out, I bought 4 of them and have been using them ever since. Last month and while on my last MX518, I decided that it was time to look for its replacement and everything was pointing at the G502 Hero.
Everything looked great out of the box, the button layout is great, the software (G-hub) is ok, albeit unnecessarily more complicated than its predecessor (Logitech Gaming Software) that the MX518 and my cordless headset are using.
And then I clicked on the scroll wheel. How can you be a leader in gaming mice for decades and mess up something so simple, so badly?
My disappointment can be attributed to two issues:
1) The grip of the wheel is terrible. In free spinning mode it's not an issue, but you don't want to use that mode. It's too fast and you need to stop the wheel. But in its normal mode, I find myself clicking the mouse wheel in my effort to roll it with enough grip on it. Which brings us to the main pain
2) Clicking the wheel. First of all, it sounds like I am hammering my desk. In comparison, the mouse wheel on the MX518 which is right next to it, sounds and feels exactly the same as the L-R mouse clicks: soft and quiet. This one sounds like you are lifting a metal pen an inch from your desk's surface and then letting it drop. Double that (yes, it's equally loud when the wheel/middle is released after pressing). People sleeping in the room beside my PC room, complain about that knocking sound.
In addition to the terribly loud clicking sound, it's so hard that I end up scrolling once up or down and sometimes left or right, when I am just trying to middle-click a new tab on my browser.

If I knew that the mouse wheel on the G502 Hero was so badly implemented, I wouldn't have bought this...
