Logitech Wireless Mouse M705
Three-year battery life
Logitech Wireless Mouse M705 lets you power on and on. It uses far less power than comparable wireless mice from other companies, so you'll go up to three full years between battery changes.
Plus, it's got a tiny wireless receiver that stays in your computer, so your mouse is ready to go – whenever, wherever and for as long as it takes.
Three-year battery life
Up to three years of battery life helps you save time and the planet by practically eliminating the need to change batteries. An indicator light lets you know when the battery is low.
Connect with ease
You pop the tiny Logitech Unifying receiver in your notebook and leave it there. You can even add more devices. Plug it. Forget it. Add to it.
You’ll fly through documents and Web pages with a single spin. Click-to-click scrolling gives you the precision you need when navigating lists, slides and images.
Laser precision means you’ll enjoy smoother tracking on just about any surface.

It's quite a large mouse and feels good under the hand if a little large for my personal preference. It looks good on the desk. It seems fairly well made, not rock solid but well made.
There are three reasons I ended up returning it:
1. I didn't like the scroll wheel in either mode, free scroll or 'click'. Difficult to explain but I just didn't like the physical feel of it and even fiddling with the control software couldn't get it to be the 'right' speed. To be fair I didn't spend a great deal of time on the software side but nor did I expect to have to.
2. It lagged and was imprecise with small movements. I use dual screens so the lag was noticeable when moving from one screen to another. What made it unusable was the insensitivity when making small, precise movements on screen. I've had 2.4ghz Logitech units in the same environment before and not seen this, I've replaced it with a (cheaper) Logitech Bluetooth device and have not had the same problem.
3. The Logitech Control Centre software is outdated but necessary. There are several extra buttons on the mouse and the method Logitech use to simulate keypress to, for example, go back and forward in Safari is poor. It wouldn't work consistently and ended up being frustrating with clicks being missed on a regular basis. The Logitech mouse I replaced it with relies on a different package from Logitech called Logitech Options which seems much neater.Read more ›
Genuinely plug'n'play, this is very easy to set up - stick in the dongle, wait a few seconds and it's ready to go. It has all the usual functions, most of which I never use. It moves smoothly even without a mousemat and I find the scroll wheel works very well - getting it to go at the required speed and stop at the looked for place becomes second nature after a while. But what makes this mouse my favourite is the ergonomic design - it fits my hand perfectly and as a result I get far less discomfort in my wrist than some other mice (mouses?) have caused.
On the downside, the reason that this is my third is that I find the mouse tends not to last for more than a year to eighteen months or so before the buttons or wheel start to stick. Each time I think I should try a different brand but after much browsing I come back to this one because, when it's working, it works very well and because I find it so comfortable to use. So recommended but with reservations.
Edit: December 2014 and still going strong this time...
Edit: Finally died July 2016. Three and a half years of pretty heavy use. And yes, I probably will buy another, though I'll waste some time looking at other ones first as usual...
My only gripe is that the free scrolling wheel is so sensitive that it can respond to general mouse movement. But the well-placed scroll-switcher means I can set it to clicked scrolling to negate that.
First the pros:
This is a comfortable mouse. The position of the hand is bang on. But those who have big hands do try it first if possible. The weight is just right for me allowing me complete control over it. The feet glide effortlessly on my hard surface mouse pad and the laser tracks brilliantly. The buttons are in the right position and they have a nice feel.
Battery life seems to be durable, it lasted the 3 years that they state.
When it arrived the feet seemed like the had glided over an abrasive surface cause they seemed already a bit worn. Odd...
The wheel wobbles around 1mm in "free spin mode" which is odd and in "stepped mode" if you lift the mouse and move sideways (and this does not have to be very fast, just normal speed) you can hear the wheel moving sideways. No biggie but really odd.
The right side rest for the farthest fingers is nothing but a grip. You wont "rest" your fingers there...
Although the buttons seem nice, the left and right click buttons are "loud". I moved from a Microsoft 5000 Desktop BlueTrack Mouse that was already a bit loud. This one takes the crown. For as of this moment is is the loudest mouse I've ever had.
So, final thoughts. Do I recommend it? Absolutely! It's a nice mouse and it will get the job done. The batteries have been lasting for over 3 years with daily use.
