However, you are supposedly able to click the scroll wheel to either side for side-scrolling but this would not work! There is no CD included for you to install the updates. Instead you will need internet access to download them, which isnt really a problem as it can be plugged into any computer with a USB port and used straight away! Another negative is that the mouse will not turn intself off after being idle, which would have been a useful feature to save energy if you forget to switch it off from the very tiny power button on the bottom of the mouse.
All in all this is a good mouse, not excellent but good value for money. I've had this mouse now for nearly a month and has not failed me yet!
Well done Logitech for this fine product!
It fits comfortably and is very good value for money.
Logitech could easily have overcome this problem by removing the rear half of the buttons and by making them just a tad less sensitive. A tip if you have the problem is to cut a small section of elastic band and tuck it between the offending button and the case of the mouse - I found that towards the front and on the top edge of the button worked best.
Overall a well behaved rodent once you have him/her elasticated!
You have to download the installation software from the Logitech website, that is ok. This is indicated on the quick start guide that comes with the mouse. I suppose it saves them having to include a CD with the mouse. Think of it as being a Greener option. Disposed CD's are an environmental hazard as they never breakdown even after hundreds of years.
I use the mouse alot for computer modelling (CAD) and find it such an improvement over my old ball mouse, much better control.
The buttons can be customised with the downloadable software, although not to the extent which i would like, for example assigning a button to a keyboard shortcut would be useful, it may be possible somehow i expect.
The mouse works with XP after windows searches for drivers and works instantly with Linux (Ubuntu) where (after some searching) it is possible to assign each button to a shortcut.
i've had it over 2 years now and its never (*) given an ounce of trouble.
It's got rubber sides, side scrolling scroll wheel and is overall a great product.
i couldn't recommend this enough .
I use it with a Mac and when Lion came out it acted a bit "odd" however , since 10.7.2 its been perfect.
my only criticism is the thickness of the plastic used. Every time I use it I hear the plastic creak and can feel it flex. I've not broken it yet, cos I look after my toys, but anyone who's ham-fisted may experience problems.
This is a bit of a put-off compared to the MX310 it superceeded. Firmer plastic and Logitech would get 5stars.

The mouse itelf works evry well but when I bought it various adverts I'd seen said it was USB/PS2. The version shipped to me is USB only and won't work with a standard PS2 adaptor.Published on 5 Aug. 2009 by I. Haynes
